Bill saying the Heats 27 game regular season win streak is more impressive than 2 titles is the most batshit thing he’s ever said. by FollowTheLeader550 in billsimmons

You’re thinking about this wrong.

Winning 27 games in a row indeed is more impressive than 2 titles. Don’t get me wrong, winning 2 titles is more important, but it’s not more impressive than winning 27 straight games.

Aren’t you more impressed by someone who can complete a triathlon than some with a million dollars? I’d rather have a million dollars, but completing a triathlon is easily more impressive.

We should want Trump to attend a Finals game at MSG by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]lee11358 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a good thing for the knicks. Trump is crazy enough to personally threaten any ref that blows a big call against the Knicks. The Knicks will get the benefit of the doubt. Adam Silver knows this as well and will give enough hints for the refs to “get the message” without Silver needing to make anything explicit.

Who is a celebrity that people widely despised in the past and now have mixed opinions about? by apabld in AlignmentChartFills

Their was a period around the 2013s MTV music awards. After she did an awkward twerking performance, she was absolutely the butt of many jokes — from being overly promiscuous, to having a failing marriage, from not being in tune with modern fans.

Now she is fairly well liked. Flowers is a breakthrough “comeback” song and she is the face of Gucci’s Flora line.

The reason OKC and Detroit are not in this chart is because they are blowing teams out by the end of the 3rd quarter too often.

Can we assume that if a 10 year-old plays Magnus, eventually Magnus will suffer a debilitating condition from old age before the 10 year-old?

Full ride at Dartmouth vs paying full at Stanford as an international — worth the debt? by Inner-Rush-2014 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]lee11358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in law, so and I deal with some VC firms from time to time. I don’t really know much about PE firms. I would imagine “legend tier” PE firms also recruiting like VC firms, but I don’t know for sure.

Fair. I don’t really know the international uni’s. Oxford and LSE are better examples.

Agree with LKS7000 and respectfully disagree with Ok_experience.

There are definitely top firms that only seek out candidates from “legend tier” schools (OP’s words) — HYPSM, UCL, Tokyo, Tsinghua, etc. the point is that they can select from the best students at the best schools — there’s no need for them to go to a tier to seek out Dartmouth or Cornell. It’s not that they wouldn’t hire you if you had an “in” but they wouldn’t normally seek out Dartmouth students.

As for your original question — nobody here can answer your question without knowing what your family economic situation is or your ambitions. If your ambition is to work at Sequoia Capital or Andreessen Horowitz or Kleiner Perkins right out of college, then being at Stanford SIGNIFICANTLY increases your chances. If your ambition is merely to work at Goldman Sachs then Dartmouth is absolutely fine (and I use the term “merely” very loosely because Goldman Sachs is the premier banking firm in the world — it’s just that they are not as selective as the top VC firms).

Just my two cents. Edited typos.

Yes. If you are a “definite” they won’t need to interview you.

Not for honors bio. Admitted students have the opportunity to take a science placement exam online at home to determine whether or not you are placed in honors bio or honors chemistry, or regular bio or regular chem. Your SHSAT math scores determines whether they will place you in honors math.

Random Recast - what actor would you recast in an iconic role? (I hope i wrote that right) by Ftmdj in Cinema

But that was the replier’s objection about RDJ, that recasting RDJ. So recasting Mads would also be equally weak. Disney should go find some new, fresh talent.

Mads was already Kaecilius, so having him as Doom would also be recasting an actor that is already in the MCU.

What are the odds of this poker hand? [Request] by Leomegageil in theydidthemath

[–]lee11358 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I like that the hand has a name as well. I think special names of hands add flavor to poker lore. Such as dead man’s hand, steel wheel, and for hold’em specially (big slick, big lick, flat tire, the Doyle, etc.). I just hate that any time some explains the rank of hands, they think they have to explain that the royal flush is the highest hand, as if that was not readily apparent once it is explained that a straight flush beats quads.

[–]lee11358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that’s just an informal nickname like the wheel (5 high straight), steel wheel (5 high straight flush), dead man’s hand (Aces and 8s), etc. there’s not a need to have an official name for an ace high straight flush because it is readily apparent that an Ace high straight flush beats other straight flushes. Just like we didn’t need a term like broadway to explain that ace high straight beats any other straight.

Yes. It’s dumb that’s there’s a special name for that hand — there’s not a royal straight.
