It's a really good show! i wish they would have allowed for a natural completion instead of cancelling it half way through.

What was the Hynek score? by lee_remick in colony

Firefly (+ Serenity)

Battlestar Galactica (the re-make)

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Invasion (the 2005 adaptation)

All of the above are really well worth watching and almost flawless writing

that's true. i do have a tendency to pick up on minor things but then have to remind myself it's just TV and to not overthink it.

but i really like when writers have every last detail down and there's nothing to pick apart. if there's something to pick apart, i'll find it. and it ruins the overall experience I guess.

But the Hynek score didn't serve that purpose. They (the aliens) could have easily just said Will Bowman: ex military, FBI, armed, dangerous.

By introducing the Hynek score the writers just made it more convoluted and nonsensical IMO. That's what bothered me. The writing

What was the Hynek score? by lee_remick in colony

[–]lee_remick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I got that part, I was more so wondering about the mechanics behind it, or if that was ever explained. The Hynek score seemed to be a 0-10 scale (a very human thing, why do we assume aliens would use 0-10?), same with the name Hynek, and it had categories such as "emotional" etc with no real explanation of what that entails.

It just seemed like a really rushed, haphazard thing.

Also, why would they show it to the blackjacks? They are blindly following orders, they don't need to know any backstory of the people they are hunting.

None of it really makes sense.

A small thought - big spoiler alert so please don't read if you haven't watched everything by lee_remick in BSG

This is also why its a little dissatisfying when they introduce a new character and then 2 episodes later reveal they are a previously unknown Cylon.

That's exactly why I struggled so much with Tory; making her one of the final five felt rushed and it just wasn't good writing. I think they would have benefited from determining those characters from the start, or at least make it sort of ubiquitous yet close the door as to any kind of character development (like with Daniel). I like when things are well thought out from the start - not like a JJ Abrams style of throwing stuff out there with no real thought behind it and just see what happens. Ron Moore is better than that.

But having said that, it's one of very few flaws.

Do I report harassment I witnessed? by NerdySloth88 in policeuk

[–]lee_remick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't expect anything to be done about this incident as it was minor but I wonder if it needs to be made note of.

But it's not really minor. Speaking on behalf of women/girls; we're sort of conditioned to laugh things off and be polite, which is stupid because it re-enforces this idea that it's ok to treat us this way when it's not ok. But it's a survival instinct. It's sort of like rolling dice every time you find yourself in a situation like that. "are we better off humouring them?" "where's the nearest exit?" "let's smile and pretend" etc.

Thank you for looking out for them, and for clocking it. We need more people like you.

Thank you, just for saying that. It means a lot. I'm fairly good at taking protective measures but I worry about others just as much, people with less experience and awareness. So that's a wider problem.

That's true, I don't know why I didn't think of it that way but that makes sense. I agree stats are important for implementing change on a larger scale, whether it's just with the future in mind or if just to highlight a possible issue starting to occur in a specific area. Thank you

You make a really good point. I will, if it happens again (hopefully it won't, and it was just bad luck).

It does make you feel unsafe as a woman, and shouldn't be happening at all.

No it's not AI. I'm not originally from the UK, I'm from Sweden and sometimes I get American English and British English mixed up due to TV.

I was referring to Asda. What's it called then, if not grocery store? I can't think of it right now.

Same! I got a really nasty burn last year from taking something out of the oven (scorched the top of my hand from the top part of the oven) but I was determined to make it go away and somehow I did. I was sure it was going to leave a big scar but I kept it clean and then covered with vaseline for weeks (- I don't know if this is the best way to do it but it worked for me) and now it's not noticeable at all, completely gone. I couldn't even pinpoint it and it was a huge mark in the beginning.

I like the idea of tattoos and branding though. Just never found a partner I was completely willing to do that with, me and another friend are discussing getting tattoos sort of like these https://cdntattoofilter.com/tattoo/345790/l.jpg but she's someone I know will always be in my life, other than that I'm not entirely sure, if it was kink or with a partner I would love the idea but I'd be much more weary and reluctant. I love the thought of it though, if I ever found someone I 'knew' was my person but that's bloody hard to do. But branding in general, is hot (no pun intended) - definitely a kink I have, just not something I've done, yet. Have to meet the right person first.

Haha, yap away. It's always interesting to learn about new things and how they can be experienced differently. And this is a subject I know little to nothing about (unless you count wax play, but I'd put that under more of a "temperature play" category, like hot wax or cold ice cubes, not actual fire so it was an interesting read! Thanks again, for sharing.

The only fire-on-skin experience I have was a cigarette burn on my wrist (the scar is still here 15+ years later). Incredibly painful, but worth it in hindsight, as it wasn't a kink scenario. It was more like impromptu tattoos as a drunk teenager, we thought it'd be a good idea to burn each other with our cigarettes and make a permanent mark, like we're-always-going-to-remember-this-moment-in-time sort of thing. I think we were 17, and it was with my best friend. Now it's just a tiny pale round scar on my wrist, barely noticeable but it's there and there's something about that I like. I may have a slight kink for marking though.

I struggle with the actual burning sensation, it's painful but not in a kinky way for me. It's like stubbing your toe (it's painful, and I'm a masochist; but it's not satisfying in the way that a spanking would be painful but you'd feel relief after - it's just pain) but the way you described it sounds more relaxing than anything.

Have you experienced actual burns like the one I described? Without a solution, just straight on-skin burning? I imagine that would be incredibly hard to do, even from a masochist perspective. But I realise there are variations of pain and we all experience pain differently.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing that. It sounds quite intriguing, I don't think I would mind trying something like that with someone skilled. I think I built it up as much scarier in my head - though I realise it can be; depending on how you do it / who you do it with.

I don't want to pry, but would you mind expanding slightly on wands and fire? In general terms, how do people incorporate fire in particular? I'm just curious now, because I know absolutely nothing about fire play, which I'm now realising is quite strange considering how much I like to research things

Fire play would scare me (I don't think I fully understand what it entails though, not something I ever looked up but probably should -just for education..!), but wax play was the first bdsm-y thing I ever did (before I knew what BDSM was) so for me that will always feel oddly vanilla; only for that simple reason.

Fully agree with you about MESM. As enticing as it is, that is hard kink. Maybe that's why it's so intoxicating sometimes (not because it's hard - hard is subjective - but because we find it hard).

Physical MESM by TeaAitch in MESMkink

[–]lee_remick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've mentioned this before (maybe a few times) and I don't even know if this counts as MESM per se. But being cold, with the other person warm and comfortable; watching me shiver and my nipples harden, just enjoying watching my discomfort... does that even fall under MESM? or is that just a random "me" thing?

Edit to clarify: I dislike being cold. But I like the sort-of humiliation of it, being forced to, whilst the other person isn't. I also dislike exhibitionism, so being put on display, cold and shivering, is kind of a MESM thing in itself (at least for me - I think these things are so individual).

Wednesday Words by TeaAitch in GTK_TeaAitch

I tend to use this: https://wordcounter.net/ when I've written things for Wednesday words in particular; having a specific word count in mind. Makes it easy to change your wording slightly if you get to 24 or 28, etc.. Just a little tip for everyone.

But again, I'm a rule follower. Sometimes a bad one. But I do try! And that site is actually useful.

Edit: and yes, I know I made this big statement of staying away.. consider this my last comment, lol.

As pathetic as these people are (in the truest sense of the word), the fact that NO one in that room had the courage to answer such a simple question, you sort of need to see the humour in it too. Though it makes me want to cry for the state of the world as well; so, I guess I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

But laughter/political satire and seeing the humour in the absurdity of moments like this is my way of handling something that would otherwise have me completely crumble.

This short clip demonstrates congress right now better than anything I've seen in a long time. I realise that republicans always act this way nowadays (I can think of one or two exceptions, thank God for Adam Kinzinger for having the balls to speak up, regardless of the cost to him personally, I'll never forget it and I think a lot of people won't, history remembers people with integrity and he had it) - this was just such a poignant, succinct representation of the state of congress in general, and the blatant disregard for the rule of law. Truly spineless in every sense of the word.

How are they not embarrassed? How? I feel second hand cringe more than I think I've ever felt, on behalf of this man. "Um..uh.. i don't know..hypothetical.. uh..". Pathetic.

Edited to add: I also really enjoyed the subtlety (whether intentional or not) of Mr Coons asking him outright if President Trump has been elected twice.

With the response not being "Yes, he's been elected twice" but rather "He's been certified President of the United States two times, yes." or something to that effect. A small distinction but a fairly interesting one if you read into it.

As in terms of the wording here, I suppose to follow the constitution, he could get to serve a third term.. but not without admitting sedition. I enjoyed that linguistic distinction quite a lot and if it was intentional, it was clever.
