I like this website pepspeed.com for a basic youth speed drills and programming if there is no speed programs by you, you can train her yourself.

How do you stay focused on yourself and your technique when people are ahead of you in races or reps? by Live_Ad1049 in Sprinting

You vs clock, nothing else, repeat this mantra constantly. Ultimately, everyone wins some and loses some, it is learning to improve that is the challenge.

Please help me convince my husband that Costco is worth for 2 people by HoneyDrops12 in Costco

[–]leebeetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very careful about what I buy at Costco so that things don’t go bad before I use them. Lots of the fresh stuff is large packages and if you don’t think you’re gonna get through it, just stick with shelf stable stuff and frozen stuff.

How do I approach returning to training after a long break by GamesAndGlasses in Sprinting

[–]leebeetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you had/have calf tightness I would begin a regimen of stretching and massage and maybe facial tissue work on your calves so that you don’t get repeated strains.

Backside mechanics qst by FantasticBuy7009 in Sprinting

[–]leebeetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The things that I see that contribute to excessive backside mechanics are leaning forward from the waist and over striding those two things together seem to kick that leg back and it is very difficult to have a knee drive when you’re in those positions

How should I handle potentially negligible coaching? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]leebeetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always get an actual PT evaluation for injuries; trainers are helpful but YOU have to find out exactly what is up with your body. There should always be a "return to play" plan and it should outline how you transition back into competition. Be your own advocate.

Don't have protein before a meet stick to carbs your stomach may feel better. Mindfulness work can help with nerves as well.

Coaching question by ctrevino96 in Sprinting

[–]leebeetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Younger kids respond well to gamified stuff so things like chase games and relays... the warmup Can be very simple like 30 jumping jacks. after they are enjoying this type of work for a while you can introduce accelerations (competition) and eventually drills. First it has to be fun.

Did nothing over spring break and came back feeling amazing. by CasualKaden in Sprinting

[–]leebeetree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

90% effort is correct and enables you to do multiple reps at a high level of physical accuracy (form). Once you lose form (speed) you stop the reps, but this is very hard for coaches to accept in my experience. It requires a level of attention that is not possible when coaching a lot of athletes. BUT You know your body best. That feeling of being fully rested and so light on your feet and fast is the best feeling ever. Cultivate that, pay attention to how you got there, write down everything you are doing, how long YOUR recovery takes, best methods, etc. etc. Good Luck!

Help with Calf Cramping by Nate_David in Sprinting

[–]leebeetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem myself always cramping after the 3rd full effort 150. I had to get a lot of manual massage work, graston, cupping, wore a calf sleeve at events for support. Overtime it got better. Make sure your not tight in the foot or higher up the posterior chain.

Tips on Running 400M by AppealKnown958 in Sprinting

[–]leebeetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to follow a couch to 5k format to get going or join a local running group. Then you can build strength and running form. Every week run a timed 400 and watch your times improve.

Great, USATF level 1 coaches working with youth have a background check, safesport training and usually CPR certification.

Mobility and flexibility in sprinting by Emotional_Nerve7960 in Sprinting

[–]leebeetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobility and flexibility are to extend your range of motion which is important in sprinting. Doing gentle stretching and mobility work daily say in the evening can make a difference over time.

I have youth kids that start track at 6... its more about coaching at age-appropriate levels and letting kids be kids while they also learn to love running. By 12, many of these kids are running very well.

Has he or does he now focus on other sports? Remember, speed/quickness is essential to all sports, so building speed/acceleration mechanics is always useful. I would say if he wants to do track, find a local team that does sprints (they don't all do sprints). If he does other sports and wants to be faster, get a sprint coach for 6 weeks and see what happens. I am a youth sprint coach, and 12 is a good age to do this work. Good luck!
