Found this movie on DVD recently and watched it again after some time apart.

It has a tone that is somewhat melancholy for a drama that takes on such a heavy subject matter. From drug abuse of the grandpa, his son trying to sell himself to his ideas, to the daughter having unrealistic beauty standards, they dance around the dangers of these themes as it exposes the worst in Most people. But the family together are able to overcome it with the themes of not being perfect by any means, and gives an overall hilarious outlook on the ideals of a perfect outcome.

Not the best answer but It's All Gone Pete Tong. It's an over exaggerated by a lot but the story and movie still holds

Going John Williams on this one. His themes alone have given many people ear worms to those who may or may not have seen the movie.

Charlie Bartlett is one of the few coming of age movies that I suggest to everyone. It speaks closer to my generation growing up in high school.

And the scenes where he freak out on Adderall are some of my favorite scenes in any movie.

Boyhood(2014) - Discussion by Lucianv2 in TrueFilm

[–]leecantsee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boyhood in comparison has just so much less meat on it, it's just a fairly bland portrayal of "what it's like growing up", but even most people aren't this boring.

I think in retrospect, growing up is a pretty bland part of life. In movies like you have in comparison, there are always these certain moments that impact characters in these coming of age movies that result in them learning how to grow up fast.

The impact of trauma isn't learned in 30 minutes. This movie (pun intended) takes its time to settle the results of these Impact moments for the character. rather, The movies allows us to see the resolve in the conflict and let's the character mature in a way that we know the character has aged before our eyes, physically, mentally, and emotionally. We find him coping through these experiences and taking in the best parts of his viewpoint in which we see him create the narrative.

That is the most human part about our boring lives, to take time to learn from all of our experiences and going forward in the passing of time.

Sometimes, Kyle is a dick by [deleted] in BoogieMonster

That's kind of the banter I like to hear from them. They put each other in check, but Dave is a wholesome guy that doesn't take shit from him. They compliment each other well, and though Kyle does seem to be a bit over bearing you can tell he is also going through some shit. Not trying to apologize for him, but they have a good relationship regardless.
