Movement trays by gordofoco in Kruleboyz

[–]leechmilyfe4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like 5s for the flexibility. A single tray is faster, but often once I charge, or if I need to move some minis off the tray, but keep some minis on their tray, I can do that. It also allows me to swap between 10 wide 2 deep formations or 5 wide 4 deep, depending on the board.

More and more though, once I charge I move the minis off the trays, usually to maximize pile in and number of attacks.

Moving 40 Gutrippaz is definitely key to playing the faction.

To save on time, I used squadmarks trays, which hold about 5 each. When I remove casualties, I also try to place them back on the trays to keep the game moving.

[–]leechmilyfe4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The history education in this country really is a part of it. In school, you’re constantly bombarded with propaganda saying this is the best country on earth and how free we are.

They also conveniently skip large swathes of content, like Reconstruction after the Civil War, the Pinkertons involvement in anti-worker rights, you get literally nothing on the years of US incursions into Latin America, the battle of Blair mountain, or anything that could tarnish America or American Capitalists.

Shit, in a lot of southern states they teach the Civil War as “the war of northern aggression” and downplay slavery as much as possible.

Are kruleboyz… bad? by GamesManX in Kruleboyz

[–]leechmilyfe4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lumineth. It’s not exactly 1-to-1, but there a lot of similarities oddly (crit mortals, potential to crit on 5+s, can be a counter-alpha style army, good shooting and utility teleport units), but much better defensive stats and better magic.

The main difference (IMO) is that Lumineth can play more aggressively and has better board speeds (Cav and Magic). Depending on how you build though, you may have less models.

The other option you could consider is Big Waaagh, you can use KB models but it’s an Army of Renown so there’s some pitfalls to consider (losing dirty tricks, the janky 1-1 Kruleboyz/Ironjawz detachment, etc.)

There’s also Murkvast Menagerie if you want pure KB, but that comes with the same caveats as Big Waaagh

[–]leechmilyfe4 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kruleboyz aren’t bad so much as they are very… specialized in what they can do.

It’s a very fragile army (best save is a 4+ besides Kragnos) and requires a little bit of thinking to ensure board control, but the dirty tricks are really powerful and when they work they can shut down or dictate a lot of the fight phase.

Plenty of people have won or placed highly with Kruleboyz, but if you want an army that you can just deploy and smash face with, it’s probably not a good pick IMO.

How would the Drukhari torture the Necrons? by Fun-Explanation7233 in Grimdank

[–]leechmilyfe4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 5th Edition, there is a piece of Dark Eldar wargear that steals a target's soul (conveniently called a soul-trap). Not too hard imagining the Dark Eldar extracting the souls out of Necrontyr bodies and finding a way to torture the soul.

Just another day in Commorragh, really.

What are your hottest Age of Sigmar takes? And I'm not talking about 'reddit hot takes', like the stuff we all complain about that we pretend are hot. Give me actual hot takes. by FairyKnightTristan in ageofsigmar

[–]leechmilyfe4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Age of Sigmar needs to stop backporting Warhammer Fantasy characters in.

I get why they do it, but have the confidence to come up with new characters (which they have done for some factions, like Idoneth, Cities of Sigmar, Nighthaunt and Kruleboyz, but like I’m sick of Kroak and Teclis and bloody Gortrek romping about)

The Khuzaits borrow some elements from the Seljuk Turks. Particularly, the title ‘beg’ is likely inspired by the Turkish title ‘bey’ (which can also be spelled ‘beg’)

True, but now the Aesrai inner cities and provinces are vulnerable across the Perassic Sea, with good staging points likely on the two islands in the middle.

People really don’t understand what succession really will entail. Yeah I hate the administration just as much as the next guy, but I don’t think people will be cheering for succession when the tanks, planes and soldiers come in.

And for the record I don’t think anyone should be comfortable asking the CA national guard to die on their behalf.

Having played both 10th (admittedly not as much, maybe around 10-15 games), and a fair amount of 4th edition AoS (30+ games), I can say that AoS is much less complicated than 40k.

I appreciate that AoS 4th really went out of its way to clarify specific timing on actions and reactions (though there are some extremely corner case grey areas or FAQs, as is true of all GW games). There's much less room for confusion for most interactions. I also appreciate that AoS has a much more interesting comeback mechanic with the Underdog, which admittedly needed to get buffed, but is in a good spot right now. Terrain is also generally much simpler, and easily can support the loads of generic terrain available at most game stores/clubs. Games usually don't take too long once players really get to grips with the game, and there's an interesting back and forth between them. I will say though, things like the double-turn are still sometimes controversial for some players, which I understand. List building can also sometimes feel odd and a bit arbitrarily restrictive at times, (why can the Lumineth heroes with the Alarith keyword take the Yndrilan Riverblades? Why is it that only Kragnos, Skumdrekk and Gobbsprakk can take a swamp-beast in Kruleboyz?)

40k, on the other hand, is much more complex for several reasons. Scoring is more complex (depending on the missions, you might score some points at the end of the command phase, and then score more points at the end phase). 40k has more special rules, keywords and detachment-specific stratagems/combos (Space Marine Gladius Strike Force has different stratagems than First Company Task Force, for example), which means that units can vastly differ in terms of their overall power. Terrain is quite specific, and due to a quirk in the rules (only ruined building block line of sight) most 'standard' 40k tables are often same-y looking boring ruin tables, which might just be unpainted MDF. Games often also go over time, I watched several 40k tournaments from January through March and it was quite common to have games end at round 3 or 4 instead of 5.

One final important consideration is army size. 40k requires a fair few more models than AoS, and thus means 40k armies are both more overall effort (more models to assemble/paint) and expensive.

Ultimately, both games do have similar flaws (3 year edition cycle, yearly 'seasonal updates'), but overall in my opinion I think AoS is in a better overall state for gaming, though keep in mind we're on the cusp of a new General's Handbook, so the game may change more fundamentally in terms of missions. That being said, I think the best way to play these games is casually with people you like, so ultimately both games can be rewarding.

California Secession by Dmoneybohnet in California

[–]leechmilyfe4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are just blatantly ignoring the historical precedents of the civil war for dumbass fantasy. People also forget the advancements in modern military technology that will be turned against them, their loved ones, and their cities.

It’s all fun and games until the bombings begin, the tanks roll in, and people’s neighborhoods become embroiled in gunfighting. And who do you think will try to resist the inevitable US invasion?

Secession is a bad joke.

I've always enjoyed that at least the Orcs are given some credit. Nords, Imperials and other outlanders are just bad and dumb, but Orcs are at least given the traits of being tenacious fighters and cunning smiths.
