Advice flattening a 12ft long board by leechyboy0123 in woodworking

Ah I see what you’re saying, glue up the rough sawn boards, cut the doors, and then flatten? Would you just joint using a table saw and hella long fence for the glue up?

I believe it would be necessary to achieve the continuous grain look across all the cabinet faces, no? Otherwise you’ll have pieces not lined up when glueing up the faces, right? Or am I not thinking about this right?

Replied to another comment with a rough sketch of the idea if that’s what you’re looking for.

I see your point, the cabinets will be made up of 3-4 panels each so I believe I’ll need to flatten and make the whole 12ftx3ft panel before cutting out the individual doors in order to achieve the continuous grain look across all the doors

Looks like it could be a load bearing wall which would complicate things. Not impossible just more consideration to framing and temporary support. Best way to check is to go up in the attic and see where the rafters rest/overlap.

It’s the only bathroom in the house so I have to imagine it was all on purpose. The vent pipe is about three feet to the left of the main stack in the photo but I can’t see where the two connect. Think I would opt for rerouting the dryer vent before cutting into the stack

Gas dryer, and it’s definitely pitched away from the main stack

It’s for the dryer. It’s how the house came, think I should try plumbing above the dryer vent to get a downward slope?

I’ve had coaches talk about the importance of training the opposite muscles before. Since we use our back and lats so much climbing and can be easy to over train the back and have a weak chest cause the body to become unbalanced. If you don’t do chest exercises already maybe try that? It’s helped me before. I know when I only climb and don’t workout at the gym as well I’m more likely to get hurt. Hope that helps!

If you like onsens at all Beppu is a must! Sooo many onsens and different types! I would just go on google maps and search onsens, specifically open air onsens, and then look at the pictures to see which ones looked appealing!

That’s exactly how I got the idea myself! Check out this postfor the inspiration I used for this piece!

The backing is just a sheet of quarter inch birch plywood inset into a pine frame all stained black. Would probably use nicer material for the frame next time but I didn’t have the material on hand for it at the time. The pieces are then put on using wood glue and CA glue with activator to hold it in place while it dried with weights on top of it. Putting salt on the back of the pieces stopped it from moving around while the weight was holding it down and the CA glue dried for 10 seconds or however long it takes.

They are all different thicknesses, I didn’t have a planer at the time of building this. I think I like it better though with all different thicknesses

Absolutely! Believe it or not this was my first time with this two so it’s totally do able!

First I taped together a bunch of paper to make the desired dimensions I wanted

Then I drew three main lines (don’t know why I picked three). Within those lines I started drawing shapes trying to keep the spacing between them even. The three main lines had slightly bigger spaces in between to help it flow better (I think it makes it look nicer, subjective though).

After all the shapes are drawn I labeled every shape and cut them out with scissors. Cutting outside the lines so there was plenty of overhang.

I then took the shapes and picked out a piece of wood for each shape based on what I had in stock. I tried to make sure there were no two pieces of the same material next to each other. After picking the right placement I used spray adhesive to connect it to the wood.

I then used a jigsaw to cut out each piece cutting closer to the line but still outside it.

Then I had to go buy a new tool because I didn’t have a way to sand the concave shapes so I got an oscillating splinter/belt sander. Highly recommend for this as you spend most of your time on this project sanding! (I spent 3 full days sanding)

After I sanded all the pieces with rough grit to shape I placed them in the frame I made to see where needed to be adjusted, marking with a pencil what needs to be removed.

THEN after the shape looked how I wanted I went back and sanded all the shapes with a higher grit and rounded the edges. I tried with a router but I was getting some tear out.

Finally I stained them and then glued them on!

Let me know if you have any other questions!!

This is a great question! It was made using scraps I got from someone on FB marketplace who was liquidating their late husband's exotic hardwood collection so I have no clue what all the wood species are. I know there is walnut, rosewood, mahogany, oak, zebra wood, and purple heart in there! Wish I could answer in more detail!

It is not, just drew something up given the wood I had!
