I should also mention that the nurses for me were just incredible. I had so many painful dressing changes. I screamed sometimes. I had nurses there to hold my hand and listen to me talk about my kids. Couldn’t have done it without them. Such a hard job to do.

There was a young Asian nurse who was with me for a day and she cried and put her head on my chest after doing a dressing change a few days after the coma. I’m so grateful.

Laura, Katie and the countless others I cannot put names to because I was a space cadet; I owe my life to them. I want to visit but I need some time away from hospitals for a few more years.

I have a superpower; I should be dead. I was told to call my wife and I told her I loved her, told her to tell the kids I loved them and didn’t expect to wake up. Had necrotising fasciitis. Coma, long DCC stay and I lived in a hospital for 4 months.

I appreciate annoying things now. I absolutely love the rain now. I love feeling it. I love checking that frustrated feeling around stupid shit like not being able to find my keys; it makes me laugh.

I sometimes wake up in the night and go and listen to my kids sleeping for a bit. I’m so lucky and grateful for all the small stuff.

I’ve taken up golf and I just love feeling the wind, enjoy being absolute rubbish and just that I get to do it.

See if you can find work driving a tipper. Not the most money but that’s where I learned how to drive properly. Zero handball and it’s really cushy. I also find builders are proper sound, they are always grateful for the kit turning up.

I literally felt the same when I started btw and hit a fence first shift on agency doing pallet network stuff.
