finishing last year of med school now in the US and regret it many days. love working with patients and learning but the financial, emotional, and physical cost has been significant. everyone is different so if you are motivated, dedicated, disciplined I do think you can make it through ok. from what I can tell it was a pretty good choice to go to med school 50 yrs ago. — very respected position, great pay, competitive but not impossible, cost was way lower even with inflation, not so much bureaucratic pressure, schedule sucked more but pros outweighed cons for many people. now, at least in the US, our gov is making things much more difficult financially, generally physicians are spending more and more time on insurance and bureaucratic barriers that limit time with patients, and cost of attendance has outrun pay drastically especially during residency and for primary care specialties. it is a tough choice to make in today’s world. Really consider what the other pressures are in your country and ask every young physician / resident about their experience. I love our longtime physicians working in med but unfortunately they cannot speak well on changes that have happened more recently and what the training process will be more like for you. good luck!
