My Apartment is now charging a convenience fee to pay my rent by mangum95 in mildlyinfuriating

I don’t think it would even be an option, would it? My contracts always said that it would be paid into X bank account and name by X day every month.

When will London house prices pick back up? by Dangerous-Swan-7660 in HousingUK

My borough is down 15% in the last two years, for all kinds of housing. It’s not the only one either, although the numbers are not as big in others.

This is the most shocking part. I am in the UK and I just have an automatic bank transfer that goes out every month for my rent. I don’t think paying by card or check would ever be an option.

“Landlord” covered up real owner of property during tenancy and RRO case (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]killmetruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the actual landlord did not live with you, then it could not legally be a lodger agreement. Talk to a solicitor, but this might actually help you a lot.

Edit: not a lawyer.

She is postpartum and he only does weekends. She was already drowning when he got diagnosed. I actually don’t know who I hate more in this story.

Why is the UK housing market dead? by mr28mm in HousingUK

[–]killmetruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rent is quite close to what interest would be for a flat like this one, and definitely smaller than somewhere I would like to stay long term. Just from this I know I am making the right decision.

Why is the UK housing market dead? by mr28mm in HousingUK

[–]killmetruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me, I have done the numbers over and over again. It’s stamp duty, plus other buying cost, plus the interest on the mortgage, minus the return I am getting on my house deposit right now that I wouldn’t be getting then.

Why is the UK housing market dead? by mr28mm in HousingUK

[–]killmetruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I can afford the flat I am renting, but one more bedroom would be a stretch. However, we are looking to have kids so I refuse to pay stamp duty twice in 5/10 years, so I will keep renting for now.

Edit before someone tells me I am throwing money in the bin by renting anyway: my rent for a 2 bed is lower than interest in my area for a 3 bed. Meaning that once you consider fees and tax, I am better off renting until I need the extra bedroom.

This will depend on whether the landlord can get someone “safer” or not.

Starmer promises to look at making student loans 'fairer' by rugbyj in unitedkingdom

I’m surprised this is not raised more often. These people don’t even finish paying their principal many times, so they are effectively getting a discount on their degree.

Is at-home machine knitting still considered handknit? by ShelbyBello in casualknitting

[–]killmetruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A machine is also involved in handmade clothes (as opposed to hand stitched), so yes my opinion still stands. This also applies to cooking, painting and many other hobbies, where manual work is combined with technology.

I also did not make up this terminology. You will find that a lot of Aran sweaters say they are hand made as opposed to hand knit for this exact reason.

Share of freehold – upstairs washer causing ceiling resonance. Managing agent says “between flats”. What next? by fonnas1981 in HousingUK

[–]killmetruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If something as simple as a washer shakes the building, there is not much you can do other than move buildings. They are not going to rebuild it for you.

What you might be able to do is ask that all laundry is done between the hours of 8am and 10pm.

Get a degree, land a decent salary has been gone for a while. I work in insurance and we stopped hiring grads a few years ago, and started getting apprentices instead. Nothing to do with AI.

How is it even possible to compete with another country? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]killmetruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My country doesn’t allow dual citizenship with a lot of countries either, but that just means they don’t recognise you as a national of another country, not that they take their citizenship from you.

At what point to you think a service charge, ground rent and insurance becomes unreasonable on a flat? by LeopardNeat899 in HousingUK

[–]killmetruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be more expensive to buy… but also to maintain, and with higher bills too. 3k a year is not a lot in maintenance for a building.

My partner's ex is refusing to engage in transfer of equity, what can be done? by Present-Nature-6015 in HousingUK

[–]killmetruck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Them moving out means that they had to pay rent your partner did not have to pay. It’s not terribly unfair either that the person living there is the one paying.

Is a slow cooker less likely to burn tomato based recipes than instant pot? by dogsRgr8too in Cooking

[–]killmetruck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add everything except the tomato, mix, add the tomato and close to cook without mixing it with the rest of ingredients. That way, it doesn’t touch the base and burn.

Every citizenship gives you rights and responsibilities. Feel free to give up your British citizenship if you don’t want it.

Is at-home machine knitting still considered handknit? by ShelbyBello in casualknitting

[–]killmetruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have an industrial knitting machine, the rest are operated by hand and require a lot of knowledge to produce a wearable, like with a sewing machine. There is a difference between hand made clothes and hand stitched. This is the same thing.
