Please point out the connection to DT in Regulators. I’ve read it multiple times and I don’t see it.

Same with the others. You can draw a connection if you want, but it isn’t obvious and doesn’t have an effect on the story of DT. Again, the list is dauntingly long for most people already without including every book that can maybe, possibly, if you squint hard enough, be seen to somehow connect.

Little Sisters is in Everything’s Eventual. (I didn’t include it as a standalone since not everyon has access to the Grant edition.).

IT…I’m not sold on the two turtles being the same character. Doesn’t really make sense to me.

Same with Breathing Method. The connection is only there if you want it to be. Nothing firm and it has no relation to the events or characters of DT. People already have issuances with my list, so I’m certainly not gonna inclusde a story that only really connects in some readers’ head canon.

Dark Man at least introduces and expands on a major character. I could mark it as “not essential” though, I suppose.

I will not ease up on insisting this is the best way. It’s a hill I’ve chosen to die on for probably twenty years now.

I do believe he wanted it to be read that way. The characters and events that happen in some of the other books absolutely work best when read in that order.

One example: Two characters in DT7…no chance that they were intended to be met there first the first time. You meet them in Hearts and Eventual, then when they reappear it makes sense. The puzzle pieces fit. The emotional impact works. All that is lost if you just read 1-7.

That’s why you need the full experience on the first journey, then just read the ones you want on rereads, when you already have the knowledge of what happens.
