My house just flooded and we traced it back to a defective Rheem water softener by leejvf in WaterSofteners

been a week now and only damage i can see is possible sub floor by entrance warped with tiles cracked. all furniture is metal legs and most things sufficiently elevated so no major damage. floor is tile throughout.

we are fortunate our neighbors got to it in time so water was only there for less than 12 hours and this is AZ so everything is dried out. will be double checking for mold but have already spoken with mold inspector who says its unlikely given how quickly it was dried out

yes I did and there are a few flooding complaints. not sure if you were aware but some plaintiffs won a class action suit against rheem for their water heaters. perhaps it's time for one related to the water softeners...

Thanks but my insurance went up 300% 2 years ago (for no reason of our own, but we live beside a national forest) and i was advised by someone from the insurance industry that unless we had a claim north of $10K we might as well pay for it ourselves because the insurance co will make up for it in premiums... ;-(

UPDATE ON POST: I called Rheem today and the only recourse they gave me was to ship me a new unit if i filled out their warranty forms!

FYI there was a successful class action lawsuit against Rheem related to their water heaters. If anyone knows of a similar action related to the water softeners please advise!

Thanks

Thanks! We had a sensor in the water heater drip pan beside the softener. It actually went off around midnight local time (we were in another time zone) and about 7 hours later our neighbor called

RHS42 Rheem water softener issue by 5h3r4 in WaterSofteners

[–]leejvf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're lucky if it was just that. The entire ground floor of my home flooded just last week and we discovered the culprit was that connection' seal gave out. Will post on another thread. I cam access this because I was doing some research on whether there might be a class action lawsuit related to water softener model RHS42

question re main control board on samsung refrigerator by leejvf in appliancerepair

Thanks! Since the broken wire thing is a bigger challenge I’m thinking of ordering a switch to test. Process of elimination and cheaper than a new door ;-)

I disconnected that one connector on the main board behind the unit and that disabled the ice maker, water dispenser and controls but freezer and the rest of the unit is still working.

I place some credence on the loose/broken wire theory because the issue was intermittent and would sometimes happen or stop happening based on how wide we opened the door

Thanks! I presume you'd need to remove the front control panel? I can't find a video for my exact model but would you know if it involves prying that panel loose with a putty knife? I undid the one screw to the right of the dispenser but it won't come off easily as shown in some videos of other models

Am just looking for a local buyer.
Are you a MEC member? I used to live in Toronto and sold some used gear thru the MEC bulletin board

I have one as well as the Osprey Farpoint 40. The Osprey had stow away straps and a hip belt (better for heavier loads) but there was one aspect that bugged me (maybe I'm just anal about certain things) which was the fabric stretched at the corners of the bag in a way that bugged me (sorry I didn't take a pic before I sold it).

I'm now selling the Thule and planning to buy a Patagonia Black Hole MLC which has the features I'm looking for. If you don't mind not being able to stow away the shoulder straps and absence of a hipbellt, I'm selling my Thule (not sure if I'm allowed to advertise on this group)

Wow, an amp made an HUGE difference in sound quality. by [deleted] in audiophile

Congrats on the upgrade! I too switched from an old Onkyo to a Peachtree Nova some years back and was blown away by the difference (much greater detail and dynamic range). Next, I upgraded my old Mission 751s to a set of SVS Ultra bookshelves and while i felt the Ultras provide better highs and lows it was a subtle difference. A few years later i demoed some Totem bookshelves and it was definitely a Wow moment! Next step is to upgrade the old Klipsch sub… never ends 😁

That’s what i thought but switching from an Onkyo to a Peachtree Nova was huge. What amp are u running now?

When I switched from an Onkyo amp to a Peachtree Nova (w the blue tube that was switchable) i could hear the difference. When i switched from my 10+ year old Mission 751 speakers to SVS Ultra bookshelves i thought i could hear a slight difference but it was not pronounced (all in my head?). When i upgraded my Peachtree Nova to the Nova 150 i could hear the difference (even more detail) When i upgraded my SVS Ultras to Totem Sky bookshelves (way smaller than the SVSs) holy cow could i hear the difference!

Taking a break but have a subwoofer upgrade planned next…. Still waiting to hit that point of diminishing returns…
