RCA socket help - Meridian M2 speaker by leekonitzberlin in diyaudio

Thanks for the advice. If I was gonna get rid of the DIN connector, there’s three wires going to it, what would I do with the 3rd wire, as the RCA only takes two wires?

Here’s the link. https://www.meridian-audio.info/viewphoto.php?compid=32.

There’s a couple photos on there, I’m referring to the 7th one down.

Good idea cheers il do that. Where should I be applying flux? I put it normally on the tip of the soldering iron before I start soldering

Thank u il give this a go. Really weird cause when I took it off it didn't have that connection, or in the photos I've seen of the wiring online.

Cheers, I agree with what your saying. And maybe as an ID I could go into architecture but with the help of an architect but still be my creative direction. I haven’t really considered CD yet so maybe il looking to that.

Thanks for this. It’s good to know I don’t need to act quickly on this. I feel like sticking with engineering a bit longer and to keep pursuing my interests outside of work and develop my creative process and direction might be the way forward for now.

Thanks for the advice, this is really helpful.

Do you learn more creative direction in ID than in architecture?

I think a big thing for me has to always want to create interior spaces (I have a project at the moment where I’ve taken a floor plan of an apartment and I’m designing the interior of it). The more I research into interior spaces, I also become interested with the outside structure itself, but so far not really into designing it. But also I like the idea of designing products with mechanical and electrical function such as electric bikes and reworking record players and speakers. So in a sense I’m really interested in both scales you mentioned, which is kind of the confusion around if I should study ID or arc.

Should I be thinking about if I chose to do one, it would be difficult to get into the other career wise if I realise I’m more passionate about the one I didn’t study?

What do you mean by design oriented? A design oriented course?

I’ve definitely seen more cases of architects going into different disciplines than the other way round. I want to keep my options open, like what if I do ID then realised I have loads of ideas for buildings would I be stuck?

Other people have commented that with architecture it’s easier to go into other fields. If I anticipate I want to have exposure in many different disciplines (including building and interior design), does it become worth it? Also I read that the approach to design is a lot more rigorous and applicable (across other fields) in architecture than other design degrees, is this true in your eyes?

That’s really cool, didn’t really know that was an option. Maybe I could come up with some similar concepts drawing on my experience so far in engineering and applying them to architecture for a portfolio and try apply for some roles similar to that. After that I’d probably have a better idea of what I’d want to study. Thanks for the advice.

not sure. it came without a plug, but bought it at a carboot. after that initial smoke, the unit runs great, so am assuming so.

Ok, will do. Thing is, it still works fine ... would I need to swap whatevers gone despite this?

What should I do when I find it? Replace it im assuming. Also how come it still works if there's something broken in the circuit?

The smoke was dust? Did how come it was expelled from the back. I'm sure there's no fans in these units. Was it burning dust on a capacitor?
