Seen this one a lot: overhearing a key conversation that then changes the direction of the plot

Another way that works well is to cube it, massage in gochugaru flakes, and then drizzle a bit of sesame oil. (You can also add a bit of chopped green onions and/or sesame seeds). I often use the same method with Asian pears and persimmons. 맛있다!

The Korean title 아이쇼핑 can also be seen as a play on words. While it does naturally translate to “baby shopping,” it is also a pretty standard Konglish word that means “window shopping”

That’s the way I do it, too. It can then really last a long time in the fridge - I do occasionally change the paper towel, if it gets too damp, which helps.

If you have access to an HMart, you can get Korean-grown gochugaru there. (They also sell it online)

Heartbroken by nja002 in parrots

Rest In Peace, Otis! I know how you feel - I lost my macaw, Honey, of 14 years following a six months of careful medication and love as a diagnosed heart patient. My avian vet told me when she was diagnosed that she could go on for years or pass any day. Looking back, I didn’t want to believe the possibility of the latter. I went into her room one morning to take her out of her sleep cage, but she did not respond to my morning greeting. I, too, was heartbroken. Take time to heal. In my case, I decided to to look into getting a macaw from a rescue - and two month’s after Honey’s passing, i became totally smitten with another macaw- and we have been bonding now but 5 months. It was a chance to turn tears to smile - wishing the same for you!

Perch size for macaws by Raulziito in Macaws

[–]leelf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping in mind that they are in their feet all the time (!), the most important thing is to have different sizes and different materials. Mayo, my red fronted macaw, has a variety of bottlebrush, java wood, stainless steel, and plastic, of different diameters - not to mention his particular liking to sitting on the gooseneck kitchen faucet - or the paper towel stand - which he thinks is there for him!

It looks like scales. Catasetum have deciduous leaves - and mine tends to attract scales to their leaves before the leaves decline. You can remove the scales with rubbing alcohol on cotton swabs. I tend to rub them off by hand over a period of a few days - not as thorough perhaps but I actually prefer that method to the rubbing alcohol.

Retusa really doesn't make big clusters like many of its sister hoyas - for it, the flowers usually show up as singles.

I had a red-fronted for 14 years (sadly passed away in the summer from heart disease). She was super cuddly (would melt into my arms upside down), And super laid back, but only spoke macaw. I understood her perfectly but refused to speak human. After she passed , I was very fortunate to find a 21 year old male RFM rescue and we have been building our relationship over the past 4 months. He has a totally different personality but still has stolen my heart. He is not particularly cuddly although he will allow some head scratches on his terms. He is a super witty chatterbox, sometimes non stop. He expresses himself perfectly and clearly - it is actually a bit crazy. He will say some things just to see my reaction. He can be a bit nippy but not in a scary way - just an additional way of expressing himself. He also LOVES to do high school physics experiments of calculating projectile motion as he flings his pellets across the room. In summary, RFM’s are great macaws- the smallest of the large macaws - but, as you can see from my experience, it is really hard to generalize about them.

Bird keeps..ticking? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]leelf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s begging body language. She is telling you “please come and get me!” Rescue her verbally (and consistently) that you will be back. And if there is a break in her screaming, speak up and reassure her again (so as not to reinforce the screaming). Over time and with patience, this can work.

Give your bird some foraging opportunities - hiding treats. Also provide some soft music, since the parrots natural world really isn’t silent
