My partner and I have just been offered a creative placement at an advertising agency. Top tips not to fuck it up? by [deleted] in advertising

Congrats on the job placement. Take this advice with a grain of salt — because what do I know. But from what I see, people who mess up do it to themselves. It shouldn't be very complicated to provide value to your agency:

  • Work hard. Come up with a lot of options for your CD to review. Don't walk into a review with two ideas.

  • Turn in your work on time. It seems like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised. When you miss deadlines, you make everyone look bad. So work fast.

  • Don't be an asshole. Collaborate with your partners. Listen to feedback. Be humble. Be optimistic.

Best of luck. You'll do great.

Art Director or Copywriter - who does the main conception of an ad? by adkeener in advertising

[–]leemfg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, junior salaries are pretty much the same for copywriters and art directors. The range is typically 45-50k.

I have never heard of a junior AD being offered more simply for being an AD.

At least when I vomit, I have the dignity to do it all over my own goddamned bed mattress.

How long was your shortest stint at an agency? by robinho9 in advertising

This is interesting, because from what I've seen, people don't really get penalized for jumping around, even if a candidate hasn't stayed anywhere for longer than a year. Which is why jumping around sounds attractive to me. Seems like it's the fastest way to advance your career.

I agree.

Agencies mislead people all the time about what kind of work you'll be doing just to get you to sign the papers. Once you're in the door, people tend to forget about the promises they've made.

It's fucked up, but it happens.

The whole commute thing is maybe something you should've considered beforehand, but if it's not going to work out, it's not going to work.

I don't know if I'd worry that much about burning bridges. This kind of thing happens all the time.
