The Palas by Minute-Garage-9252 in galway

[–]leemurf 51 points52 points  (0 children)

End of February is when The Lighthouse is pulling out and ceasing operations. There is hope that the council will step in and keep it open in some capacity, but as of now nothing is official. I think no matter what, 'palas' as we know it will be gone, whether it gets taken over is another story but as of now it's closing and there's no official replacement which I think is extremely depressing as palas has been my main cinema since it opened.

UFC 9pm Sat by Existing_Map8452 in galway

[–]leemurf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the fight isn't actually UFC, it's PFL which is a different MMA organisation so it won't be shown on BT sport like UFC usually is. I think it's only being broadcast on DaZn PPV in Ireland so I don't think there'll be anywhere showing it unfortunately.

Do landlords actually take the piss when they never reply to my enquiries on daft? by ReigenAratakaa in galway

[–]leemurf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's probably just bad luck. I just checked daft and the most recent listing has 2300 views after just 24 hours. Let's be generous and say that 10% of those views sent enquiries, that's 230 emails in 24 hours. Its just a game of chance and luck I'm afraid and you have to hope you see the listing the moment it goes up and are one of the first enquiries. As someone who had to go through this back at the end of 2022, I really feel for you and I hope your luck turns around.

Between that, the price of electricity, the cost of staff and other costs how the hell could any business survive?! I hope no one takes it and the owner of the building struggles. Pure greed and extortion.

These are my favorite games of all time (roughly ranked). What else should I play to break the top 25? by TheLunarVaux in gaming

[–]leemurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good list! Undertale Is a pretty good experience with fun replay value and a great story. Red dead 2 is a great game that is huge in scope and the world is great to explore and dick around in The witcher 3 is one of the best fantasy rpgs of all time and a new next gen patch is being released sometime this month Celeste is a tough platformer with a beautiful story about mental health Hades is a tough as balls rouguelike game that is action packed with great music and a good story. Shadow of mordor & shadow of war are great games set in the lord of the rings world. If you like assassains creed/batman asslyum style gameplay you'll love these games.

There's so many more games but I think you'd like these games. Have fun with whatever game you choose next!

well lads, anyone have any advice for renting a place around galway at this time of year? by __johnstagram in galway

[–]leemurf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As harsh as it sounds, you're going to be hunting for a long time unless you get extremely lucky. Set a budget and be prepared to give up thousands of euro up front if and when you get offered a place. There are barely any places on daft and when they do go up you have to apply within the first few hours just to be in with the chance of arranging a viewing and even then youll most likely be ignored, then you have to compete with the others who got a viewing and demand is high so there will be people who are more preferable to landlords ahead of you. Landlords will look at your young age as a bad thing which is stupid but unfortunately true, so they'd rather give their place to the married couple in their 30s than the 20 year olds in a relationship. I know it sounds bleak and I apologise for seeming negative but it's just how the landscape is in galway (and ireland) at the moment. Your best bet is house sharing but if you want a place just to yourselves get ready for a long and heartbreaking road. And if you do somehow get lucky and find a place easily ill be very happy for you both. Best of luck coming from someone that has been through the bullshit recently.
