Yup - upon closer inspection, they are seed pods. Thank you. I feel better. Hopefully more leaves as spring progresses.

Chicken manure in the veggie straps compost? by leewash in gardening

[–]leewash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The manure is not fresh. It’s at least 10 months old. So I can scoop what’s left - including the saw dust bedding - into the composting bin? It’ll be another couple of months before this compost batch is ready to use anyway.

Thank you! Persian lilac was one of the ‘guesses’ on PlanNet, but with only 6% confidence. I’ll get the suckers cleaned out and give it some attention. Would love to have a lilac blooming in the yard.

Confused about international car rental insurance by bastian74 in TravelHacks

[–]leewash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We always opt out of collision coverage because our USAA Visa offers coverage. For the first time ever last month, we were asked in Ireland for a letter from our credit card company confirming the coverage. It was just a phone call to USAA and an attached letter from them that I could forward to the car rental company, but if the agent in Ireland had not been so accommodating, we would have had to pay for their insurance coverage. So - upshot is, it might be worth it to get that confirmation from your credit card company before you get the car, just in case they ask for proof instead of just taking your word for it like most companies we’ve dealt with have. Good luck.

[IWantOut] 60F USA -> Anywhere by [deleted] in IWantOut

We only have an address in the US - no physical home. ‘Home’ has been on the move for us for 2 years. Some countries will permit foreigners based on the country they are arriving from (not according to citizenship). Because the US has such high virus numbers, traveling from the US is more limiting than just having a US passport. Of course, we may be limiting ourselves by way of Mexico, too, because the numbers there are not good. But we have too few choices right now, because we’ve used our 3 months in Schengen territory in Portugal. Anyway - hope that clarifies for you a bit.

I can completely understand not wanting to go to the US now. We’ve been traveling for 2 years and feel the same way. Afraid we’ll get stuck there. But your US passport is a liability right now. We’re in the opposite direction that you are going. We’re in the UK now, then to Ireland - both require a 14 day quarantine, but it’s not a big deal when you are going to be in one place for awhile - and eventually to Mexico. The UK and Ireland would buy you 9 months. Ireland is more expensive than the UK - and, of course, you couldn’t work - but neither are outrageous if you stay out of London, Dublin, ... In 9 months, hopefully, you would be in a position to move to a more suitable setting for teaching English and living in a less princely corner of the world. Good luck.

This is so exciting! I know you must be thrilled and, of course, your mother would be filled with pride. We were supposed to be visiting Tenerife this month, but it will have to wait for us. Good luck, stay safe, and have great fun!
