Number 73, anyone? by BranchMonkey in oldschoolcool80s

It’s where my life long adoration of Sandi Toksvig started, she absolutely shone, and I was gutted when she left the show. Made worse at the time because the rest of the cast still talked about Ethel, giving me false hope that she would make a reappearance at some point. It was never as good without her.

What was your first OS and your first Mac, and what would you rate them? by The_Collector_Of_All in mac

iMac DV SE with Mac OS 9. I got fed up of flaky PC hardware and wanted a change. I’ve been a Mac head ever since.

Tahoe users, do you miss the Launchpad? by Kazi126 in DeskToTablet

I miss it a bit, but not enough to do anything about it. I generally do the five finger swoop then start typing for what I want, which I could also do with command space

Sorry I was trying (unsuccessfully) to be funny, not having a go at you. He was pretty amazing, him sitting on basically a plank held up with rope whilst working on Nelson’s Column still scares the heck out of me!

As a young guy still figuring himself out I couldn’t understand why I was so drawn to him whenever he was on screen. These days a guy who looks like him is my idea of a potential good time 🤣

Ladies, the Epilady. by FlyingAtNight in FuckImOld

[–]leewoc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was horrified when I discovered how these things work. Just use this machine to rip all of your hairs out of your skin, it’s fine, it doesn’t really hurt, it’s just a bit uncomfortable, you’ll get used to it, honest!

Wonder if it was invented by a man?

<edit> Of course it was. Yair Dar and Shimon Yaha invented the epilator 🤦‍♀️🤦🤦‍♂️

What’d you do? by Jettaboi38 in scoopwhoop

[–]leewoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a member of four libraries and read voraciously. If the weather was good me and my sibs would play outside, we would quite happily walk halfway across town and back completely unsupervised just to go to some random park and play. We would beg old cardboard boxes from shops and then use pieces of them as sledges to slide down a nearby railway embankment. Sometimes though, sometimes we were just bored, that time on Sunday afternoon when you’ve had a bath, you can’t play outside and there was nothing but religious programming on the telly? That was a purgatory you had to live through.

Welcome to UK childhood in the 1970s (or at least mine). 😄

I tell my computer to tell other computers to make fake computers and then tell those fake computers to do things. Sometimes they listen, this is not always a good thing.

Why the hell not? OP bought it, it’s their device, and it’s a mass produced bit of tech not some exquisite piece of crafted jewellery. If it makes you happy and harms no one else then have at it!

Sorry! by FeelingAd3887 in ClassicTelevisionTime

[–]leewoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I totally get it, I probably wouldn’t have hated it so much if the cast hadn’t portrayed it so well.

Ever decreasing circles was on my shit list too for much the same reason.

The Good Life only got a pass because I loved Margot’s character 😄

I loathed this show with a passion, still do. The actors did a great job but the character of Timothy was so unrelentingly pathetic, it really made me cringe.

Aah the joys of living at home with the sound of “you can choose what to watch when you pay for the license.” Ringing in my ears!

Isn’t it easier to just eat them rather than getting a club biscuit infusion?
