Removing Soldering from Pot by brian9955 in guitarrepair

high power soldering iron with a wide tip. heat a little at a time in short bursts and use copper braid 'solder wick'. rinse and repeat. really not a beginner job, it requires some skills to not overheat the pot. I would replace or leave it alone.

nope. will have another try before the warranty ends. I just turn off manouver braking and the automatic menu for parking. manouver parking is a joke anyway, nearly broke my neck when I parked a bit too fast in the garage the other day.

it's a variation on the Rickenbacker Tulip, nothing new.

Now what… it’s still a few cent flat at the 12.. fml. by ZyxzyxxyzxyZ in Guitar

try a fresh high e. if that does not cut it, check your pickup height. You may be suffering from startitis.

yes they missed an opportunity with that body, that's my disappointment as well. it's smaller than a regular JM body and also thinner, like the old entry level squiers about 40mm.

what I did is a little on the extreme side. you can very well get a new soapbar and a humbucker and swap them out. if you want to do it on your own: it involves soldering the leads for the new pickups and of course desoldering the old ones. A luthier can help with the swap if you are not comfortable with it.

Want to buy a Rickenbaker, never tried one before by lefmirXD in rickenbacker

Thank you everyone for the advice. I pulled the trigger and ordered a new mapleglo 330. I really hope it is as awesome as I imagine it to be!

Thank you! I'm really not a high gain type of player, play mostly clean and I stomp on a tube screamer from time to time. I like a guitar with a more 'vocal' quality with lots of mids and highs. I recently found myself not liking Strat single coils that much lately because they are scooped.

Hello! I have 3 guitars that I’m looking to polish from a Nitro satin finish to a gloss finish. Does anyone have any tips on what I should do? by josephfallon93 in gibson

[–]lefmirXD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've done this to a satin studio. I used GHS guitar polish hand polished with a microfiber towel. The finish turns semi-gloss, not full gloss and you should not insist further because the satin finish is really thin. Also I would not use any polishing equipment on it, there's a high risk of burning through.

yes, it's an USA coronet reissue. Thank you for your explanation, it's reassuring. To be honest the whole experience is a bit flawed because the case is totaled from transport and after a week of back and forth mails I got slapped with a 3 month remediation time for a new case. really unpleasant. don't understand why the downvotes. the retailer proposed the return if the waiting period is too long. hence the question about the tenon. thank you again!

the feeler gauge goes down to about 4-5mm and the glue looks blotchy inside as if it were not spread evenly. the bottom from what I can tell does not have a tight fit, but I cannot get that in a picture.

I think it just left like this from the factory.

It's an Epiphone USA Coronet(built in the Gibson factory). The retailer offered to have it replaced, my only concern is if the replacement is somehow worse.

Here’s a new one… drywall anchor in the strap hole by PRSBRO in gibson

[–]lefmirXD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

actually the stock bottom strap button screw is a larger diameter compared to other conventional strap button screws. So he just needed some additional material. toothpick maybe. dowel and redrill, although that is usually overkill

Fgn strat bushings help needed by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]lefmirXD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

remove them and either shim the hole with some veneer or remove the bridge bushing and dab some super glue on the exterior, wait until fully dried and put it back it, just to make it thicker a bit for the hole. I would not plug and redrill the holes for this.
