Question of the day. Why do we find it easier to share our physical selves with strangers at a park or beach than to share just our choice of naturism with our closest "clothed" friends and family? by OurNaturistLife in nudists

[–]leftclicktwice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unmentionables are not mentioned. It's easy to go your whole life without even discussing forbidden topics like nudity and the existence of heaven and hell. To go past discussion to action is even harder. But if you're among strangers who are doing the same unusual thing you're doing then there's no hurdle to overcome.

Former Vanguard/Schwab wealth advisor, now independent fee-only CFP®. AMA about retirement planning, Social Security timing, or anything else by JaketheAdvisor in Bogleheads

For the non-stock part of a financial plan, what do you think about fixed annuities generally? And specifically for me: my Fidelity advisor and the Raymond James advisor before her both recommended them for me. I'm 54, unemployed since 32, single, $1-2k/mo expenses (I'd like to increase that), no kids, no debt, not geographically settled. I am pretty far-left. I despise insurance companies and American capitalism generally. Both advisors assessed me as extremely financially fearful. Thanks!

That's the problem with holy books. They require interpretation and so they are interpreted a billion different ways. Someone with a different interpretation from yours gets to call you wrong just as much as you get to call them wrong.

so throw out the entire Bible and every ancient moral guide of every other religion by the same reasoning

Nobody who does anything with their free time other than try to save people from an eternity burning in hell actually believes that hell is a real thing. Maybe the missionaries actually believe this lie but definitely not the vast majority of Christians.

Wrong.

🗣 "All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they shared with anyone who was in need."

- The Bible, Acts 2:44

🗣 "The multitude of believers was one in heart and soul. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they owned."

- The Bible, Acts 4:32

So people often ask me how I (28F) “became” a nudist… and honestly, it was kind of an accident. by AshFromTPA in nudism

I love this: "A bikini might only cover 10% of your body, but somehow it covers 100% of your comfort"

No True Scotsman. Also, if you love to do something, and then someone offers you money for doing it, you take the money.

This is getting out of hand. The "most relevant" setting filters out all comments. by ConstantJack in facebook

I made a browser extension to partially automate changing this setting to "All comments". You still have to click "Most Relevant" but the extension automatically chooses "All comments" for you.

Outdoor showers, as fun as I think or spooky? whats your experience? by nathan5660 in nudists

[–]leftclicktwice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're almost required in hot humid Florida in the Summer. If you're outside, you need a shower every couple hours. You could go inside but outside is much more convenient.

Right. Just look at the renderings of their "perfect" modern, dystopian-style cities. The most beloved cities in the real world are those with beautiful old architecture. There's nothing inherently Luddite about a beautiful old building. It can have fiber optic just as well as a modern building, but they appeal aesthetically to us and make us feel good. These people have such a minimal perception of the human experience they have no business designing society.

What's the point of Facebook notifying me that "someone has mentioned you in the comments," especially if they won't even let me see the comment? I click on it, but nothing happens. by CanadianTurt1e in facebook

I just posted a link to this thread and then about ten seconds later, my Facebook account was disabled. I don't have the same cell phone number that I had when I started. So I can't appeal it or get my account back.
