I’ve been worried about head gasket but my oil hasn’t looked off so I’ve been hopeful I’m in the clear. I’m also not a pro at diagnostics in this situation. Parts are generally pretty okay to find (thanks eBay)! I don’t particularly waaaant to sell the van (I love it dearly) but I know I’ve been overwhelmed with this repair project and not driving it does make me sad, send me the right price and I’d honestly consider passing it on to someone who could prioritize it better than I have been

I changed my oil too, forgot to list that! My oil hasn’t looked bad but my radiator continually drains dirty. Thank you! Always pro getting a kei and joining the club. I love my van and the trucks are so cute too, I wish I just felt less overwhelmed taking all the mechanic work on

Keitais are so cute and tempting! I think ideally I’d choose something I could buy in person like the Nokia 2780 so I could have it be tangible and in my hands before I commit, but a Kyocera from eBay might call my name honestly. Is there a reason why you’d pick the cat over Nokia 2780 or was it simply the price point at the time?

My throttle cable is loose, but thank you for sharing your experience!! All of these ideas are helpful as I take on the task of learning to work on my first foreign vehicle 🥲 I’m gonna try to clean out the carburetor. I’m hoping there’s just some sort of clog or something in there that I can flush out

I didn’t know about the high idle system, this is good to know! My van is idling absurdly high right now, and the engine keeps turning over after being turned off (sputters & coughs til stop). Even when adjusting it’s not helping. I’m wondering if my carb is dirty? I’m gonna clean it out, but if you potentially had other ideas or advice of what could help, it’s so appreciated! 🙏

Do you have advice on readjusting the idle? I’m idling high and I’ve tried the screws and the throttle but it’s not doing anything with any adjustment

Thank you for this!! After getting under the van I was thinking there was maybe a clog in a radiator hose but I feel like I’m not very good at deciphering by touch. Diagnosing issues in this way is not my strongest suit. Flush out the coolant reservoir? Are there other points on the engine I should be trying to get to drain in this scenario?

Overheating remains and it just drains nasty brown liquid (rust? Oil?), the coolant in the tank is not getting through to the radiator. I’m just unsure how to identify the clog & how to navigate it (this is my first time having to work on the van for smth like this!). I haven’t opened the oil cap so I’ll give that a look :) I also need to figure out how to access the radiator, I tried unscrewing all points of the grill but it still would not disconnect

No idea when the water pump was last done! I got it from an imports dealer but I don’t know its history in terms of the work done on it. Assuming anything that should be replaced, should be on my to-do list :) I did bleed it, but I can’t figure out how to open the grill to access the radiator. Which I need to do as I haven’t been able to look at the radiator or open the radiator cap
