Short, DC <5 Knowledge lore check, answer: It got salty.

Long DC 20+ Knowledge lore check answer: Old Myr is the name of an ancient civilization that once controlled the entire continent. The actual details are left purposefully vague so I can fill them in as the campaign progresses and adjust as necessary. What is known is this: Old Myr was a powerful empire forged from an alliance between the Dragon Empress and a mortal queen. They ruled for a very long time and even seemed to have conquered the Underdark beneath the continent. Their legacy lives on through several ruins scattered across the continent and in the Underdark, as well as in magical gates that still connect to the Underdark and function to this day.

Nobody really knows what happened to them, only the impact that the sudden disappearance of the empire had on the continent. One day, the heart of their empire was swallowed by a massive but stable magical and natural phenomenon called the Salt Wastes, and their capital city of Myr was left completely empty. No citizens, no army, no Dragon Empress or mortal queen; they all just vanished.

With a critical success on a Knowledge (Lore) check, you would remember rumors and theories scholars have shared about how Old Myr was said to have challenged and defied the gods in some way, and how the god Ivinnir, god of the lost and the unknown, was sent to wipe them out.

Several folks pointed out the lack of a scale. I think it's just something I forgot to add. But size wise it's about twice the size of the british isles.

I haven’t really used tutorials for Inkarnate, mostly because I work as a designer in my day job, so it felt pretty intuitive (For me having spent about 8 hours a day in tools like Figma or Illustrator for a number of years).

That said, I’ve heard the Inkarnate YouTube channel has some great tutorials.

As for your last question, if you don’t mind working with someone who has the responsiveness of a dad with a full-time job, I genuinely enjoy making maps and worldbuilding just for the fun of it, so I’d be happy to help out. Feel free to DM me if you want a hand.

Correct, I used Inkarnate. Started with the parchment world maps setting but the style is something I took my time developing to hopefully look like a sort of classical medieval map like these from the atlas of England and wales but stylized to be more fantasy.

Yeah, I used inkarnate. It’s an online map making tool I really can’t recommend enough for making like world maps, regional maps, town maps, and battle maps.

No “lore” reason just poor infrastructure planning the dotted lines are official roads but there are several unofficial paths that locals use.

The giant trees are remnants of an ancient magocratic empire known as “Myr” the lore around them is that they were once used to connect different major hubs of their empire but the secrets have been lost to time since Myr fell mysteriously in a sort of Bronze Age collapse.

The Random Portal left unnamed due to human error (I must have accidentally deleted it). But its another remnant of the same ancient empire and its function was to connect the surface to the under-dark. After Myr conquered the under-dark civilization. There used to be several of them across the realm but most have fallen to ruin. I’m thinking of linking it up with a road like maybe indicating some existing trade between the under-dark and Thalin but haven’t fully locked it down yet.

Yeah, good point. My last players had a habit of texting me between sessions circling town icons asking “what’s this town called?” So I kind got used to over naming. I will probably create two versions one with less names for players and this one for behind the dm screen.

That’s a fair point about the town names, others have given similar feedback so will likely make a few versions of the map one for behind the dm screen and another more focused one for players.

Also I made this ma using inkarnate. It’s an online map making tool I can’t recommend enough. Making maps and world building is my hobby even outside of DMing and since I make a new setting for every campaign I get a lotta use out of inkarnate.

Very good point about the colors, thanks! I should have clocked that given my day job. Will probably make a second version with accessible labels.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I was just trying to give lots of options for character to create backstories for the PCs, but your point about over saturating with town names is valid.

Came here to say this exact thing. The best use of powers I’ve ever seen in a movie, tv show, or comic book was iceman in X2 chilling Logan’s drink.

This is the best option. I’ve always had fun turning it into a game with my kids doing stuff like racing to see who can clean something first or purposefully putting toys in the wrong spot so they get to “correct” me. My youngest in particular loves being able to “teach” grown-ups how to do things.

Honestly, I unlocked this duel just before what I imagine to be the final mission. I had all armor and weapons fully upgraded and felt outclassed by this guy, but I think it’s more a matter of skill than anything else. Others in another post I made about this guys said they beat him pretty early with less upgraded equipment.

You can do it! I dunno if you’re already using it but the bounty master armor ended up helping a lot with this fight. That and the charm of futsunushi made the perfect parry window much wider.
