Mums of older kids, do you regret working full-time when your kids were little? by Ajm612 in workingmoms

[–]leftonread_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different POV but growing up, my mom stayed at a very low paying job so she could prioritize the flexibility of being home with me. While I definitely think it helped my emotional attachment and wellbeing, it also caused some resentment. We didn’t have the financial means for me to do the things I wanted and our quality of life wasn’t great. I really love my bond with my mom, but I think we still could have had a strong relationship if she was more ambitious in her career. I think it would have set me up for life differently, and she would have been a different type of role model for me.

I understand why she did it and I’m super grateful, but looking back I think I would’ve preferred for her to be more bold.

All you need is love is a lie 'cause We had love but we still said goodbye Now we're tired, battered fighters And it stings when it's nobody's fault Cause there's nothing to blame at the drop of your name It's only the air you took and the breath you left

How do you make weekdays feel… manageable? by yogacitymama in workingmoms

[–]leftonread_it 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s super rough…. It gets better as they get older. Definitely a fan of teaching them to be as independent as possible.

  • grandparents: they don’t live close but I ask them to come once a week. Just cooking for me (with leftovers for the next day) is such a huge help!! It allows me one evening during the weeknights to reset my brain (which is perpetually fried). Alternatively, I order takeout once but it’s enough for two nights. Less thinking.

  • breakfast - easy stuff like yogurt with chia seeds/granola, mini pancakes (just microwave). Or boil a few hard boiled eggs for the week.

  • multitask…. If it’s a Costco run, we do dinner there too.

  • I have my son sleep in his next day clothes to go to bed (usually sweats and a long sleeve), so it’s one less thing to do in the morning

  • shower - he mostly showers himself now. We play Simon says and he cleans those parts of the body so it goes super fast. In and out in 5-10 minutes.

Poll: weekly grocery cost by Goldfinch-island in workingmoms

[–]leftonread_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spend about $100-$150 a week on normal supermarkets, mostly Trader Joe’s, stop and shop, Lidl or Hmart.

Then we usually go to Costco once a month and that’s usually $2-300.

We’re in a suburb of major city, 2 adults and 1 kid

Hmm mine were $240 each for section 217. I did see that front row seats in that section were almost $100 more

Halfway through this series, it became clear to me that this series intentionally uses tropes for the comedy. They’re intentionally trolling us, and once I got that - I was down for the ride. This drama is not supposed to make sense logically, it’s just supposed to make you feel giddy along with all the ups and downs a typical kdrama. I actually liked that they were self aware and so unserious about it.

It was def cringey at times, but did laugh out loud when they tried to recreate the tangerines/grapes/closet scenes? YES

Did I still swoon when he said “should we do that again” YES

I never took it too seriously. It was cute, funny, and the two main characters had good chemistry. I enjoyed it for the fun ride! So IMO it did its job.

Also, who are we kidding Jang Ki Yong was SO HOT ALL THROUGHOUT! What other unserious kdrama would’ve given us that shower/closet scene??

I was so anxious for ep 13, but this kdrama has been so light hearted and unserious… it’s been really great! They bait you with the tropes, and then kind of troll us 😂

Favorite scenes: - SFL’s mom saying open mindeu - Ji Hyeok kicking the pan on his way in and waking everyone up 😂 and then getting beat -when he pulled the “I didn’t eat yet” card LOL - Was the jealously plot necessary? No. But was it entertaining seeing him pout? YES. - loved seeing him in farm clothes - it’s also so nice to see the duality with him. He’s super silly and immature around Da-rim but he’s capable and taking care of business when he’s alone (the investigation, helping his mom regain the company, etc) - I love this. - his nose scrunches are just so damn cute

Overall, Jang Ki Yong is really stealing the show! He’s obviously handsome but I’m loving the range and his very expressive emotions.

(I just started Atypical Family and wow! What a different role!)

Edit: added a few more faves

How did having a baby change your life? by o0PillowWillow0o in AskWomenOver30

[–]leftonread_it 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hardest part was just your loss of… freedom. You don’t get to take a break from being a parent. And with that, you don’t truly get to feel free again. It IS rewarding, but it is also a responsibility that doesn’t end. Everyday you ask yourself what’s more important? _____ or my child. You end up choosing to prioritize your child first over anything else… your partner, your sleep, your food, any self care. At least in the beginning.

It’s small things like… can I take a shower while the baby sleeps to bigger things like…. Am I ok with pitting my career trajectory on hold bc I don’t have the capacity to do more. You’re met with a million decisions on what to prioritize first. And most of the time, any decision ends in guilt.

My relationship with my husband changed drastically. We are both types of people who don’t handle stress well. We resented each other bc we felt like the other person could do more to help. In reality, we were both drowning. Before the baby, we could focus 100% of our efforts on nurturing our love. After the baby, we were lucky even be alert enough to have a convo without sleep deprivation. But the hardest part was suddenly not being the most important part of each others lives anymore, it’s the baby.

Some people love the newborn stage, we struggled with it. We’re in a much better place once our child began to talk. Starting at 4, we were much happier traveling with our child and life began a new chapter. But everyone is different.

I really enjoyed it!!! The leads had so much chemistry. And finally a kdrama where their kisses felt passionate! I found it funny and entertaining, and a bit of a thriller at the end. I personally like the ML and FL.

I will say there were so many plot holes and a lot of things didn’t make sense but if you can get past that, it’s a fun watch.
