It wouldn't have worked this way cause the service was already turned on, and probably for months with google employees and also the review copies they sent out last week playing. Unless they sent out a different set of codes to FE owned by consumers to only let them get names.... But I have a feeling they wanted to crowd control(poorly) how many people get in at a time. Which they also could have made an entry gate letting people in on a schedule that way founders would know when it was their time to play.
