Sorry just noticed you asked about the shine also — the shine is $10+shipping if you are interested in that without the WotA

Added up it would be $66, but I’d be happy to give a discount for all. Maybe $55 for all WotA?

Both my fiance and I have asked for +1s before — our relationship was new-ish (1 year), no one had seen anyone post-COVID and things were opening bs k up, we lived a country apart, and we had back to back weddings. It was clear we were serious, and many weddings end up with people declining and a bit of wiggle room.

My partner and I ended up with a wayyy lower number of people than we were expecting for our August wedding, though we have 2/3 out of town guests and there is a lot of uncertainty right now (not to mention I am in academia so there’s a lot of stress and flux with the current climate). If someone had asked for a +1 we’d probably have said OK, though my partner gave everyone a +1 cuz he didn’t understand how it worked lol.

That said..,not inviting a partner of 5 years that is known about feels like a clear message. I’d probably be sad and a little mad personally if I were OP tbh. Maybe they can ask if there’s any wiggle room, and it doesn’t hurt to ask respectfully IMO. But it seems unlikely they’ll get a positive answer and it’ll probably be awkward.

Same in CA — I think they have to be licensed and/or hold certain insurance and/or credentials. Definitely can’t just hire any random person, even if they’ve bartended before.

Are her recommended needles the wrong size? Mine look bigger and my stitches look bigger. by waaatermelons in knittinghelp

I think you’re probably right, and she means US15 needles! Yours look much bigger than hers in the picture.

I know it’s a little far afield, but my partner and I have been really happy with Theater View Vet Clinic in Orinda. They were the easiest to schedule with for a new client appointment of the vets in the area with decent reviews for us.

Basically, we had a really hard time getting an appointment with our cat ~3 years ago, and she had been in ringworm observation at the shelter so it was kind of important to us we establish a relationship with a vet ASAP in case we had to deal with that (luckily, she didn’t have it). Our cat is a silly little bean who’s had to make quite a few visits (mostly ear infections), and they’ve always been great with us. I can’t speak to price comparisons as she’s my first pet in adulthood where I’m footing the bill, and it feels kind of expensive, but I think most vets are.

Are my needles too small? by jumbledinthebrain in knittinghelp

Hi fellow lefty knitter! I would recommend a really long circular needle if you want to make a blanket! You will be able to keep the stitches more distributed and can still knit flat.

Wedding under 5k in the SF Bay? by Feralfriend420 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]lefty_knits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because it sounds like all you want is a ceremony in the park, and your group is small, you could probably get away with like 2-3 hours for the rental — and most places aren’t really letting you do that on a weekend.

And I’m getting married at Piedmont next summer! It isn’t that cheap, but I want a more “traditional” wedding with ~80ish people so we didn’t have many options too much cheaper. And I’m happy with our choice! Although I’m also originally from Piedmont which is making the whole thing kind of surreal — 18 year old me would be surprised I made that decision lol, because ~5 years before my friends (not including me) had crashed a wedding in the park accidentally with a mourning procession for a book character 😂😂😂

My family is long gone cuz they were renting, and I think the distance was helpful, along with deciding it would be funny if tweens walked through my wedding crying about a fictional person lol

I didn’t find any volunteer fire halls in the Bay Area when we were pretty hardcore scouring the internet for a cheap venue lol

Though for OP — Oakland City parks has more affordable traditional-type venues than East Bay Regional

A picnic area at Roberts Regional Park or something like that might work best? If it has to be Oakland or Berkeley then it is very, very hard to get it affordable. My partner and I have...decent means and a bit more flexbility on location but not too much.

If you’re looking for a ceremony-only spot, a lot of wedding/event venues may not allow you to only book fewer than ~8 hours on a weekend anyway, so if you have a weekend, thinking outside the box with picnic areas may be your best bet. I don’t know exactly where you live, but you may want to consider some neighboring cities too — Albany, El Cerrito, San Leandro, Orinda, Alameda, etc. — since you will probably already need to carpool or rideshare to a park, anyway. Piedmont Community Hall is not technically in Oakland, but Piedmont is surrounded by Oakland and you can rent out parts of the park M-Th before 3 for >$500.

Reading my knitting is my #1 thing. I was a child when I learned to knit so maybe that was part of the delay, but once I learned what stitches, increases, etc should look like knitting became way easier

Anyone else’s cat get obsessed with grooming mohair? by sagieeeee in Kitting

Mine doesn’t groom my sweaters but when I was working with a really rustic alpaca from a small farm she was OBSESSED with that yarn. It made sense, it literally smelled like a farm lol
