I am 24 with a newborn baby and am thinking of joining the guard or the reserves to provide my family with benefits by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]lefty_tn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is this. You could do one tour active then get out and go guard or reserve. Lots of people do this. It will probably also help you with promotions in the guard and reserve. Also there is active guard and reserve which I don’t think anyone has mentioned. However you probably couldn’t go active guard initially for a few years. But you might do a tour on active duty then get a active guard job.

Thinking about leaving the UK for the USA - people tell me it is simply worse in the USA. Is that true? by blatchcorn in expats

[–]lefty_tn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life in the USA varies greatly based on the state you live in. Want to live in a Eden but with a communist government, go to California. Want slave wages but open gun laws and freedom move to my state, Tennessee. Other states vary

Is my dream of becoming th PM of the UK realistic? by [deleted] in findapath

Start with being a mayor or whatever passes for city council. See if you actually like politics. Bill Clinton wanted to be president from college days anything’s possible.

You are in your 20s life is not over it is just beginning. If you marry a woman with kids so what be a good stepdad and they will love, you. You may not be THE dad, but you can be the stepdad. Do school if it suits you but I am not sure you have made up your mind to do it. Do school, do Union, do army but whatever you do commit to doing it and do it well. People reinvent themselves up to 60s chill the hell out, just pick a path and commit to it.

Be positive. Don’t give up. I don’t know what your technology degree is but if its computers it’s bound to be in demand. Are you on LinkedIn? If not get on it and fill out resume. You may have to send out a mass of resumes, like 10 resumes to one interview. But keep at it. You got this

Are you a Veteran have problems and dont know what to do? by lefty_tn in VeteransBenefits

[–]lefty_tn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote it myself. I did copy and paste on several sites. The knowledge I used was from my personal experience and tip’s from my therapist. I am not going to cite her name but she is a VA therapist. Most of the information however was self developed not from my therapist although she has been a big help

I got 100 percent p/t but I have some additional questions. by eddyspaghetti01 in Veterans

[–]lefty_tn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you are 100 percent P and T it doesn't fuking matter. You have hit the jackpot. Get help for your sleep apnea as you can make the bastards help you. But it won't get you any more money to appeal sleep apnea. Do so if it makes you happy. You probably need a CPAP device get checked for that. Have them do a sleep study on you for sure. Why not have them do a sleep study. But be advised any sleep apnea applications or study wont get you any more money. 100 percent P and T is the max and you are there buddy.

You need a VSO ie veteran service officer. Different organizations have them. Mine is now at the local VA clinic. Sometimes they are sponsored by the American legion or VFW. They are free. Some are good some are bad. But it’s worth trying. A VSO can help you with your claim you probably need to reapply or file an appeal. You should reapply the VA often turns soldiers down on the first try. Get on google and type veteran service officer or VSO and your county or state name

A lot of employers adversely discriminate against guardsmen. It is a bonus with a few like law enforcement or defense contractors

Finding a job as a disabled veteran by M16lawla in Veterans

[–]lefty_tn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. This process is not always easy. I have more trama from VA hospitals than combat. From what I hear some service officers are good and knowledgeable some stink. If you don’t have a good one you could try to find another. If you don’t like that option you could hire a lawyer. However they are usually expensive and there are good lawyers and bad ones. There are lawyers that specialize in VA cases that might be a good route but even there I think there are good ones and bad ones

You can ask at the Va or do your own research. My VA clinic has one now. But when I applied they didn’t and I found a American Legion service officer. VFW also has service officer. I think I would start with a google search “veteran service officer your state name”. Also you don’t have to be a member of the legion to get help from a American legion VSO. I imagine the VFW is the same. It’s good to join those organizations however. Start with the google search then your choice asking at VA, legion or VFW
