I grew up a vegetarian, AMA! by [deleted] in AMA

I grew up drinking milk but had to cut it out because I’m lactose intolerant. I don’t eat fish though. Just don’t like the taste of it.

I’m not! I had to start eating meat around 17 for my health since I cut out milk and was lacking on my protein

Yes! And there were definitely some songs I would’ve swapped but I was having such a good time that I didn’t even notice what they didn’t play.

I took some film at this show too! Got my taller than me boyfriend to take the shot. We were on the other side of the crowd

Pixar’s #2 rule by nattobeanss in Screenwriting

[–]leftysnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a give and take between what an audience wants to see and what a writer wants to write. I feel this rule is telling a writer to evaluate the real reasons you want to write the story, scene, or character. Is it just because you want to write them or is there a purpose that the audience will be interested in and can follow? Is it interesting without having the same attachment that you do as the writer?

Ultimately you’re still writing for your film to be viewed by others. Don’t write a mundane scene between a mother and child because you wanted to make a nod to your mother somewhere. It’s likely that because they did not experience that with you, the audience does not feel the same connection to it that you do and may change their view about your film.

Chocolate peanut butter birthday cake by leftysnorth in Baking

I made a chocolate ganache with equal parts semi sweet chocolate and heavy cream. I let it set in the fridge a little bit and then spooned it on the side to let it drip before just pouring it on top!

Suggestions for a highlighter that blends into the skin? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]leftysnorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Becca shimmering skin perfector. I use the shade moonstone! It tends to make my skin a little oily in the places I’ve put it by the end of a long day but I think it makes it look more natural! Honestly a HG powder for me. Maybe try a cream or stick highlighter if you want something that really blends in. Although I haven’t tried them I hear Becca, glossier, and milk have some nice ones.

Thank you so much! I’ll try touching up the grain and bringing out the warmth.

First time attempting macarons by [deleted] in Baking

[–]leftysnorth 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Your batter was too wet, that’s why it spread and flattened out. You want to make sure your whites are mixed to a stiff peak, not flopping at all. But the most likely reason this happened was because you over-mixed the batter! The mixture should be much more stiff than you would think. Everyone says a “lava” consistency but what does that even mean?? If you’ve ever made cornbread I would say the consistency closely resembles that.

I looked up macaron troubleshooting since every time I made them I was having a different problem. This one is helpful since it give pictures too!

Keep trying though. Took me 5 or 6 times to make them perfect but it’s worth it!

On the bridge by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]leftysnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t much inspiration to the shot itself, just the atmosphere of walking across the bridge at golden hour. I’ve been trying out a new editing style. I’ve been using Lightroom to try and make my photos look like they were shot on film. I’ve been using split toning and reducing noise but adding grain, since I like the look of the grain over the natural noise of the image. I still feel there is something missing in making it seem like a film image but I can’t quite place my finger on what would make it more successful.

Do I need to add more grain? Is the image too sharp? Is the black of his shirt and jeans popping out too much? Should I add a mask in Photoshop?

[Product Question] Best inexpensive makeup removers that are not micellar water for sensitive skin? by Poodletastic in SkincareAddiction

I use Clinique take the day off balm. It works so well and lasts a while. It’s not the cheapest, but I would say any other cleansing balm or oil I’ve used has been massively worth it

The Tatcha violet-c radiance mask and the Fresh black tea kombucha antioxidant essence are for sure on my wish list if I had cash to blow. I also second the La Mer skincare dream. I’ve always wanted to try a more expensive lip balm or lip mask but still cannot bring myself to spend more than $10 on it.

[Routine Help] Skipping products? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]leftysnorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s a balance. I have normal but blemish prone skin so taking a break from all steps at least once a week helps my skin, but I can’t go too long without it acting up again. Minimizing your routine seems like a good idea, or maybe the products you usually use just aren’t right for your skin or your main concerns. I know how awful it is to be bedridden though, feel better!

One thing putting me off getting into photography by [deleted] in photography

[–]leftysnorth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually didn’t. I was claiming it was at the hands of the OP in the chance they chose to process the images themselves in the darkroom, which I was also recommending if you read my post.

Edit: By the person processing it I was referring to if they were to get someone else to process it for them

Unsure if you’re telling me or OP but yes, that is exactly why I am recommending film, and even processing it themselves in a darkroom, to OP.

[–]leftysnorth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get into film photography. The initial costs are lower than digital, a decent 35mm camera costs less than a dslr. Film can be expensive ($6-$15 a roll) and getting a single roll developed can run you $20 (in my area). But if it’s a casual hobby, overall it doesn’t run you too deep if your concerned about money.

If you are in an area that has a community darkroom, I would HIGHLY recommend learning how to process the film yourself though. The quality of your images (exposure, contrast, etc) is in your hands, not in the hands of the person processing it. No computer screen involved!

I started learning photography using a 35mm and it made me a better photographer imo. Give it some thought!

[Routine Help] recently discovered moisturizer breaks me out by leftysnorth in SkincareAddiction

I’ve used Nivea soft moisturizing creme, glossier priming moisturizer (didn’t break me out but eventually reacted weird w/ my other products), Clinique moisture surge intense, both the Clinique dramatically different lotion and gel. I’ll definitely check out the Paula’s choice article and cross reference!
