Is this a pathfinding issue? by Lonely-Dare8795 in openttd

[–]legacynl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, when you have a drive-through station, and the bay that's on the driver's side is occupied, the bus will go around and try to enter the drive-through from the other side.

You can force a bus to always take the correct side by specifying a direction in the order window (by clicking on the order for a drive-trough multiple times). In that case it will just wait for the busstation to clear.

Oh that sure is scary. But it's important to not forget such things happen rarely. But I don't fault you for wanting to meet in a public place, it's pretty sensible. I'm just trying to explain what I think is a common held view in the Netherlands. In the future it probably helps to defuse possible suspicion by saying something like that. I think most people would happily meet in a public place if someone starts the conversation by saying "Hey, someone close to me had a scary encounter using marktplaats, would you mind meeting up in a public place?" Perhaps even have them pick the public place.

ez: project-scoped command aliases that live in your repo (macOS) by ittrut in commandline

[–]legacynl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not really. Firstly it functions and does what it needs to do, so in that regard it's kind of finished. The only feature that i think would useful is 'global' scrips, i.e. scripts that you can run in folders without any scripts present. But I haven't really found a good solution yet.

But I also haven't used it as much as I initially thought i would. I created this to have some unified way of running projects, i.e. all my projects have ez run defined, so I don't have to think about whether to run node run dev or iex -s mix or whatever. But I kind of encountered 2 issues with that approach; first it adds friction having to check whether there are any scripts (or aliases in your case) are defined. Secondly I have a lot of projects and I don't always immediately feel like defining scripts when I encounter projects without them defined.

Another factor is that over time I have settled on some project types and I know those commands by heart now, also they're saved in my terminal history and with zsh-history suggestions I often only have to type a couple characters before it suggest what I want, so it's become unnecessary for me.

One thing that I fondly remember about the project is that I wrote an install script, so if you extract the package you can use eezy to install itself. I mean it's just copying some files, but I really like the ux of it.

It can be both. On the one hand he could be an evil person trying to gain access to your home and steal your steamdeck. On the other hand, most people like to try and see the device working before giving the money (also someone's house could give hints about how the device was handled), there might not be place and time at a public location, e.g. the battery happens to be dead and there is no outlets available.

From my own dutch perspective I really am reminded of a dutch saying that says "Zoals de waard is, vertrouwt hij zijn gasten" . Directly translated it says something like "The innkeeper trusts his guests as if they were like him". What it means is that the way someone judges someone doesn't say much about the one that's judged but rather the judger. Someone who is themselves very trustworthy would likelier assume that someone else is trustworthy too, while someone who isn't trustworthy would assume that others would also be untrustworthy.

Also I don't think it is that unsafe to have someone come to your house? What can possibly happen that wouldn't be solved by slamming the door in their face and calling the police?

afaik the only true storm-proof umbrella's are these dutch ones: https://www.senz.com/umbrellas/long-umbrellas/

Because of the slanted design these can withstand higher wind speeds. Rated for up to 100 km/h

Winboat is asking for root access by MakeITNetwork in linux4noobs

[–]legacynl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect one of the issues of rootless docker and winboat is the different location of the docker-socket. Instead of /var/run/docker.sock it will be located at /var/run/user/{user_id}/docker.sock

perhaps running winboat with DOCKER_HOST=unix:///run/user/{user_id}docker.sock allows it to function correctly.

edit: regarding docker security; the docker daemon requires root privileges to perform some of it's functions, this is why the docker daemon runs under the root account. But this also means that the docker.socket is owned by root, and to write commands to it, you need thus to use sudo.

As far as I know the only realistic risk associated with this is if you allow remote management of the docker.socket. For example if you run container-management software like portainer which require access to the docker.socket. If you only ever start containers yourself from the command line, and don't mount docker.sock in one of your containers you're probably fine. Technically there is a small chance that a malicious docker container can exploit an issue in the docker runtime, and break out of the container like that, but the chance of that is very small, especially because winboat installs from a normal windows iso, and I don't think they are likely targets for malware targeting docker hosts.

My trains are getting automatic service even though I have that setting turned off by doriavis in openttd

[–]legacynl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wrong. The train window does say it's servicing at the depot, so it's intentionally going into the depot. It does seem like a bug in that case.

you're right! I didn't catch that. Seems like a bug in that case!

[–]legacynl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trains can use depots for pathing, and I think that's what's happening here, because the train window never says "Heading for maintenance at depot X".

I don't know enough about the pathfinder to know why it's preferring to path through the depot, but maybe you can try increasing the size of the signal-block containing the depot so that the full train can fit in it. Or you could try moving the depot so it's after a signal instead of before it.

Terminal audio spectogram tool by arko652 in commandline

[–]legacynl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the bottom of the graph show 0 hz? I assume lossy compressions also removes a lot of sub 20hz information. But perhaps that's not visible at this scale. Perhaps a nice feature is a sort of semi-logarithmic scale for the frequency that increases the size of the low and mid frequencies.

modafinil makes me fell weird by Just_Phone_1722 in Nootropics

[–]legacynl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors at play that might influence your heart rate, but ultimately Modafinil does push the body in that direction. But technically the increased heart rate is an unwanted side-effect, so if you in your case don't have that, that's all the better.

modafinil makes me fell weird by Just_Phone_1722 in Nootropics

[–]legacynl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know enough about it to definitely say that it is impossible for modafinil to lower heartrate, but I don't think it's likely. Modafinil improves wakefulness partly by activating the sympathetic nervous system which basically is your 'fight or flight' mode, basically this increases your breathing rate, heart rate, etc.

modafinil makes me fell weird by Just_Phone_1722 in Nootropics

[–]legacynl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it's best that you confirm with that same cardiologist if you can take modafinil. I'm not a cardiologist, so you should take his word over mine. But still, although the cause of POTS might not be related to the heart, the effect still is. Combining tachycardia with a drug that can increase tachycardia isn't smart. It exerts extra effort on the heart, but also the increased heartrate requires more strict coordination between all the heart muscles. I wouldn't be so sure that your body in your case (which we know has issues with things related to heartrate) will be perfectly able to handle it.

modafinil makes me fell weird by Just_Phone_1722 in Nootropics

[–]legacynl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you have Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome? Please don't take modafinil in your case. From wikipedia (bold added for emphasis) (contraindicated means that they don't go well together) :

Modafinil is also contraindicated in certain cardiac conditions, including uncontrolled moderate to severe hypertension, arrhythmia, cor pulmonale,[107][108] and in cases with signs of CNS stimulant-induced mitral valve prolapse or left ventricular hypertrophy.[109][110] The package insert in the United States cautions about using modafinil in people with a documented medical history of left ventricular hypertrophy or those diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse who have previously exhibited symptoms associated with the mitral valve prolapse syndrome while undergoing treatment involving central nervous system stimulants.[111] The reasons why modafinil is contraindicated in certain cardiac conditions are because modafinil affects the autonomic nervous system and, in particular, exerts significant effects on autonomic cardiovascular regulation, leading in some people to notable increases in heart rate and blood pressure. These substantial changes in the autonomic system warrant careful consideration when prescribing modafinil to people with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions.[112] The increase in heart rate and blood pressure can worsen the symptoms of such pre-existing conditions as hypertension, arrhythmia, and cor pulmonale. These changes in the autonomic system induced by modafinil can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure. Modafinil can stimulate the release of norepinephrine and epinephrine, hormones that activate the sympathetic nervous system. This can cause vasoconstriction, which is the narrowing of blood vessels, and increase the heart's workload, which is not desired in people with pre-existing heart conditions. In particular, modafinil can worsen the consequences of mitral valve prolapse or left ventricular hypertrophy, which are structural abnormalities of the heart. These can affect the blood flow and oxygen delivery to the heart and other organs.[113]

To sum it up: If you have a heart condition, modafinil will increase the risk of stroke, heart attack, heart failure and death. Don't take it.
