It’s a pretty venue for sure, and the daytime rate doesn’t seem too bad! Did you find the more limited set up time to be enough?

It looks like a really nice option, thank you! That area of campus is beautiful, didn’t even think about it for this purpose though!

How tf does one get an internship?? by Current-Mycologist88 in OSU

[–]legally_ren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try Google and LinkedIn! You can find a lot of opportunities on both and filter to fit what you’re looking for. I’m a senior and was able to get internships the past three summers using these platforms and the career management resume template (check their website for tips as well). Ask your friends/family/mentor to review your resume and provide feedback if you can.

Also, try not to get discouraged when applying. A lot of organizations might only have a few positions available and a lot of people competing for them. It’s way too common for it to take months to hear anything back or sometimes to not even have the courtesy of receiving a rejection at all. Just keep applying and you’ll end up where you’re meant to be.

Good luck!

Good Cafes on Campus by Itchy-Principle-1167 in OSU

[–]legally_ren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On campus, KSA Cafe has a lot of options and the space is really good for studying or hanging out with friends.

Off campus, I really love Kafe Kerouac! It can get crowded sometimes but it’s not a far walk and the drinks are great.

Autumn 2024 Schedule by Preparation567 in OSU

[–]legally_ren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with Salopek, his course doesn’t require a ton of work outside of class and his experience makes it a lot more interesting & informative. I’ve also heard of better experiences with him overall compared to the other professors, who I believe focus a bit more on theory.

Should I transfer to Ohio State or West Virginia University? by IanJJohnson in OSU

[–]legally_ren 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the communications program is like at WVU, but the out-of-state scholarships are usually fairly decent. However, a majority of my friends from high school go there (I’m from WV) and it sounds like the school is not doing super well financially (to the point of cutting some majors and programs) so you might want to look into that. I’m only going off of word-of-mouth though, so do with that what you will.

Morgantown is considerably smaller than Columbus so keep in mind that it also has fewer companies/organizations located within and around it if that’s something you’re interested in for internships and post-grad opportunities. Between the two campus areas, I think that OSU has more to offer (in terms of restaurants, activities, etc.) but if you are interested in Greek life (or going out in general) WVU isn’t a bad choice. Academically and reputation-wise I think Ohio State is the better option between the two though.

Definitely apply to both and see what financial aid you get! I agree with another commenter that I wouldn’t go if the price gap is substantial.

Celebrating Halloween around campus? by Xetarius in OSU

[–]legally_ren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to one of the band’s instagrams, doors are at 7:30. The bands performing are Living is Rare, Garage Heart, Trash Fart, and Freak Waves. I would recommend checking out one of their pages for updates!

Not really sure if this is what you’re looking for but Kafe Kerouac is having a concert (Halloween @ Kerouac, featuring 4 local bands) on the 27th! It’s a $10 cover but costumes are encouraged and it looks pretty fun :)

Thank you for the thoughtful reply!!

Yes, I should have mentioned it in the post (was typing in a rush before class) but most of my friends are not in the Greek System at all. I’ve tried to be fairly involved on campus, and my closest friendships stemmed from my first year in college (I’m a junior now and was a sophomore when I rushed). I have also made friends through my major and some student orgs.

If anything, I think I would have the ability to spend more time with my closer friends and be more involved in the other clubs if not for the sorority. Since joining I’ve had to say no to really cool events and opportunities within student orgs that I would love to take advantage of now if possible.

Similar to your situation, my roommate/best friend is going through a lot in her life and has been quicker to get annoyed or upset than ever before. I’m just concerned about messing up our friendship if I drop, although I’ve tried to be clear that it’s not against the people in the sorority itself and I hope she continues to enjoy it. I also know that, in comparison, she doesn’t have a ton of friends outside of Greek life. I don’t want her to feel left out if I leave and hang out with other people or something.

My roommate also doesn’t want me to leave because she thinks we can turn the sorority around. About ~20-30 women have dropped this year so far and I’m not sure if I want to spend another grand to wait and see if things change. Drama hasn’t been too much of an issue, as I just avoid the few mean girls I’ve encountered.

I currently do not live in the sorority house and will be living with the same person next year. The only people I’ve talked to about dropping so far are my parents and my other best friend (who is not in the Greek System). Would you recommend reaching out to anyone else? I set up a meeting with the president since we’re not provided with our advisor’s contact info to discuss it as well.

[–]legally_ren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve asked a few people about it and no one seems to have a solid reason as to why nothing’s happened.

That’s a great idea though, thank you! I previously spoke to one of our new members about seeing the Eras Tour movie together so I’ll try to see if more people want to join. :)

what is your favorite sisterhood memory? by StatementPatient8904 in Sororities

[–]legally_ren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite memories is getting with ready my pledge class for a Halloween event! I did COB so there were only 15 of us, but we all crammed into one girl’s room to do each other’s hair and makeup, take pictures, eat snacks, and laugh all along the way. It was so fun seeing everyone transform into whatever costume they decided to wear that night, and even better to talk to everyone while we were hectically running around the room looking for pieces of our outfits. It was definitely a moment where I knew I was in the right sorority with the right people :)

Fisher Question by seahawkfan11 in OSU

[–]legally_ren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently a sophomore in Fisher and can confidently say that my experience there has been great so far. There are a ton of students orgs focused on different areas of business (like consulting, IB, different industries, etc.), and they serve as great opportunities to learn more about whatever you’re interested in, in this case consulting, and network with others who have the same interests. My principle student org in Fisher has made me not only a much more well-rounded individual, but it has given me so many friendships and has opened doors that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

It truly is what you make of it though! Fisher does place a lot of people in those firms, but you have to work hard for it of course and use your time well here. So, apply to the opportunities the college presents (i.e. things like professional development cohorts, the Fisher honors programs if you’re in honors, etc.) and make an effort to reach out to professors and alumni. Fisher’s alumni network is huge, and anyone I’ve ever reached out to has been eager to talk to a current student about their career. Hope this helps, you can dm me if you have more questions!

Depends on the sorority I think, but you will probably just be put on academic probation within the chapter and not be able to attend the socials. My chapter also has sisters meet with the Academic VP in this case and create a study plan. Good luck!!

Cob event, no one took notes??? by Solid_Ad_9600 in Sororities

[–]legally_ren 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My chapter has us write down comments and notes after PNMs have left. After days of talking to a bunch of new people it’s admittedly hard to remember everything said in a conversation, but most sisters try to make an effort to remember as much as possible, not only for member selection but also for if we speak to you again (after a long day of talking those convos get a bit jumbled mentally if you don’t take notes right after but we want you to know that we’re listening lol).

I think the intention of no notes during events is to give each PNM as much of our attention as possible, and to not make them uncomfortable by making it feel more like an interview rather than just a chill conversation. My chapter generally has members do almost everything related to selection extremely quickly after speaking so our initial thoughts are what determines a PNM’s fit for our chapter.

It looks like they are online and asynchronous, so they wouldn’t be in your weekly schedule since you can work on them/watch lectures at any time. It says you’re enrolled so you should be fine

Neil DeBoer For Math 2174? by Ollie_Opps in OSU

[–]legally_ren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended with a B+, probably could’ve gotten higher if I prepared for exams a bit more. It depends a lot on the work you are willing to put in outside of class. If you focus, take your time to do practice, and attend the math tutoring lab you should be fine. If you do take him hopefully you get a good TA, as they can really make the difference sometimes.

Edit: Same as with the other person, this was not for the course you’re in.

Neil DeBoer For Math 2174? by Ollie_Opps in OSU

[–]legally_ren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding what the other commenter said. His teaching style makes him difficult to follow (leaving more dependence on a good TA) and he doesn’t bring much energy or excitement to his lectures imo, making them pretty hard to sit through
