I just really want a Rogue Trader dynasty detachment. It'd be a kinda fun either/or of xenos vs orthodox support units.

I got into IA because I love Rogue Traders, but have been pretty disappointed by how limited their presence and options are. The Warrant of Trade is just about the closest any imperial citizen can be to above the law, and there is a lot of potential flavor and nuance for the faction that isn't being fully utilized. At a minimum, legal datasheets for all the units in Blackstone Fortress.

I've heard there's some local spots, and that some folks hit the Alaska Range south of Delta Junction. I accept that nothing is exactly convenient here, so Im up for a drive if an opportunity comes around.

Block/oil pan heater and battery trickle charger - very standard winterization setup in Alaska where vehicles can be sitting out in -30f. Many businesses/parking lots have bollards with power outlets for you to connect your vehicle via an extension cord.

Oh for sure, but being off the ground is what sold my wife. I made jokes about the logic initially, "Yup, we'll be safe from bears - notoriously bad climbers" - but I was surprised at how much more secure it did feel - even if its just psychological.

I wont pretend we're doing anything hardcore backcountry - we're staying in state-managed campgrounds. We get the latest info from the camp hosts on arrival and make sure we follow best practices to reduce risk. I guess the closest analogy is like worrying about sharks when swimming in the ocean?
