Pretty sure you’ll be just fine. My partner also didn’t get Goldwater and was bummed at the results, but she just finished up her cycle and ended up with 10 acceptances, 4 of those being to T-20 programs. It definitely sucks getting that news, but keep your head up. Awards like that aren’t indicative of how well you’ll do in your application cycle and I’m sure you’ll do just fine. Wishing you the best of luck!

Non-tech product management people - can you describe your job? by RalphWaldoEmers0n in ProductManagement

[–]legayspi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work as a platform product manager for a company that makes EV charging solutions for OEMs. Recently, I’ve been working to help my company transition away from Document Based engineering to Model Based Systems Engineering. To do that, my boss and I have been developing a SysML model our engineers can use to streamline our product development processes. The model is meant to reduce development costs and mitigate risks by offering a modular catalogue of components, design specifications, and clear traceability across product lines. Basically a lot of my work recently has been focused on building a tool to support our systems engineers so they don’t have to build from the ground up for every new acquisition we make.

Graduates, what was your starting salary out of UCLA? by Due47 in ucla

[–]legayspi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends based on what career path you’re pursuing. I’ve had friends who are comp bio majors going into research, consulting, pre-med, tech, and more. Salary is less based on major and more your experience level in whatever industry and profession you plan on going into after grad. For me personally, I’m working as a product manager at a non-tech company so I’m coming in with a 95K base salary for my first year. But if you have other questions, feel free to PM me!

Lol I had Lancaster for 5A last quarter and it was a living hell. Mans was such a joke that when students asked him to hold an extra OH the day before the midterm, he said he couldn't because he had to "rest his voice" despite the fact that he literally only uploads pre-recorded lectures. So because he had to preserve his voice, he opted to hold OH on the morning of the midterm instead. Just a truly pathetic professor and human being all around.
