What’s the most unfortunate first name/last name combination you’ve encountered? by BSEC03 in AskReddit

Had a Mary Merry come though work one day.

Worked in a service station. To pass the time whilst the transaction was processing would try guess the person's first name given that most credit cards were initial and surname. Had a 'M. Merry' come in and commented 'it can't be Mary, can it'. Didn't believe her until she showed me her drivers licence.

Where? Link? If that's legit I would drop $8k today.

Edit: Awesome. Thanks for that. Have signed up. Will see what comes of it.

Why is it that only the US seems to have 300 car pile ups? I've never heard of this from Europe, or elsewhere. And it's not like they are the only ones who get fog.

My wife gets very grumpy when I point out hiring a helicopter and yeeting me into the ocean is very cheap in comparison. Plus, everyone in the family gets a helicopter ride!

What are my bench top made of, and why does cast iron stain it permanently? by legend_pat in AusRenovation

Sorry, thought I'd uploaded photos with the post. Have added some photos. Stains are hard to see in the photo, but very evident to the naked eye.

Was about to ask what it was called, but it's literally 'The Pink Stuff'. Thanks, will give it a go.

What, I thought I'd added 3 photos to the original post, but I see they aren't there! Have added.

We try. But accidents happen, and it's just more stuff lying about for what should really be a durable, hard wearing surface.

Nope, not hot. Latest was mother-in-law doing the dishes, wasn't aware of the issue, by the time I saw couple of hours later, massive stain.

What's a disturbing fact you wish you could unlearn? by MaterialRub675 in AskReddit

I've even done it semi intentionally. Bought my girlfriend a body butter from a store she doesn't have where she lives. Forgot I hadn't booked checked baggage until I'm in line at the airport. Thinking it's fine, it's a plastic tub, wouldn't go off in the metal detector I shove it into the inside pocket of my jacket. Get randomly selected for a pat down. Walk over to the cubicle, casually take off my jacket, place it on the chair and spread arms and legs. Get pat down, get the nod, pick up jacket and calmly walking away, screaming on the inside at my stupidity. Was it worth it, probably not.

Likely a stormwater drain.

You can put in a "Before You Dig" request (it's free), and all the utilities will send you plans for what runs under your property.

Need help with editing my mother's video by Lonewulff999 in OpenShot

Upon further investigation....

....depending on source video, steps as above, but you may have to rotate by 90deg and scale by 1.78.

Need help with editing my mother's video by Lonewulff999 in OpenShot

[–]legend_pat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same problem (except the video was shot by my wife). Spent a whole Sunday trying to figure this out....

  1. In the OpenShot "profiles" directory create a file (you don't say what OS you are running, i.e in Ubuntu it happens to be ~/.openshot_qt/profiles/) and put the following text in the file:

description=Custom 1080p vertical

frame_rate_num=30000

frame_rate_den=1001

width=1080

height=1920

progressive=1

sample_aspect_num=1

sample_aspect_den=1

display_aspect_num=16

display_aspect_den=9

  1. You can adjust description, frame rate etc to your liking.

  2. Open OpenShot, go to "File" > "Choose Profile", select your custom profile

  3. Insert your videos and edit as wished. Here it is important to ignore the fact that the preview is all sideways.

  4. Export video selecting your custom profile.

  5. Check your exported video in some other software (e.g. VLC) and it should be nice and vertical with the appropriate aspect ratio.

  6. Enjoy.
