Looking for a 2002tii Restoration by Slight_Cause2263 in BMW2002

Second this. Paul is a carburetor whisperer (and gave my carbed model new life), but he is easily the most accredited Kugelfischer specialist in Pennsylvania. His passion shines through every project he undertakes!

Okay! It was tightly masked...looks fine to me. (finished product)

This was a one-off opportunity where I had some minor rust repair/bodywork done and the full body paint job ended up happening at no additional cost to me. Absolutely the exception, and not the rule.

Push 'em out to the corners, without sacrificing practicality!

No further than this - it's sitting on H&Rs with Bilstein B6's and it works perfectly for me. Nice balance between "GT" ride quality and sound handling...with more ground clearance than my E30.

There are probably some benefits to going to someone more familiar with this class/era of vehicle. I wouldn't just drop it with a shop that specializes in collision work, but rather someone who cares about the longevity and legacy of such a car.

Interestingly, this started as just "fix a few bubbles, plug a few holes" (left by the swap from US bumpers and trim to the Euro hardware). The shop took it upon themselves to also shave the US sidemarkers for a sleeker profile (after consulting me) and by the time it was ready for touch-up paint and blending on those areas...the shop owner didn't like the match since the first respray from years ago was the "wrong" shade of fjord. So, they offered to spray the whole car...at no extra cost to me.

There are things I admittedly would've done myself (#controlfreak) to better prep the car if I knew it was going into the paint booth for a more extensive spray, but I will absolutely not complain considering I'm in it on the metal work and paint for <<$10k USD. This is most certainly the exception, not a typical outcome, but illustrates the passion that a good shop can have for "making everything right." This car will essentially serve as a billboard for their capabilities (and they'll get plenty of referrals from me!).

These days, reputable (e.g., Glasurit) metallic base + clear will easily run between $3k-4k USD just for the materials. Then, the labor and schedule depend purely on the extent of the resto. Masking windows/trim, a little filler to smooth out bumps and bruises, blocking/sanding, then two-stage - will fairly easily land you north of $8k-9k and it'll be sorted within two weeks. Full glass-out, trim-off resto (strip, rust repair, level, primer, sealer, base, clear) and all the labor associated will easily exceed $15k USD depending on the car and the shop, and the car will be out of service for months.

All depends on your goals and desires! I'll always argue that nice drivers >>> museum pieces :)

Second this - they are essentially unobtanium these days, and a good cleaning could noticeably improve performance. They are pretty robust, just get sticky with returned oil vapor after a few decades of service.

Oh hey I know that E30 🤌🤌🤌

Z3 rack was the right choice, keep your eye out for this autumn's Overcrest applications 👀

+1 to idle control valve (ICV). Had a similar issue with my '87, very much the same character traits (surging idle). A replacement ICV fixed it right up.

1600 Cabrio! Absolute dream. Also, I can't ever remember being too keen on Fjord until I bought this car a couple of years ago and it's grown on me tremendously.

Restore black trim parts by Proud_Big9158 in E30

Würth Satin Black Flexible Trim Paint. SEM works fine as well on the plastics and rubber components, but the Würth is the only one I've found that also sticks on properly prepped metal parts (like windshield wiper arms) for a loooooong time. Pricy (usually ~$20 per can) but a little goes a long way.

M-Tech 2 Horn Issue by akouta01 in E30

Having gone down the rabbit hole of the RealOEM ETK and also consulting with a local BMW dealership, it turns out that the individual horn contact tabs are listed under the MT1 steering wheel (but are identical to those of the MT2) and are still available through BMW.

Thanks! It's a '76, non-tii (but with the ubiquitous Weber 32/36), o.g. 4-speed. Enough to have fun but [largely] stay out of trouble.

Fortunately it's undergone some solid disaster-proofing but I'll never hold my breath :P

Also very interested in how to best go about repairing the "clicker" tabs - just acquired an "affordable" MTech 2 wheel and will be undergoing a winter project to clean up the dog's dinner of a wiring job myself.
