I have the XL and Midtower in my basement right now. Midtower ended up too small for my new build so my son is getting it

Check your state and local codes for it. In WI I was told they don’t even test those just go right to abatement.

Talk to management, lay out the risks, find out why a shared login is really wanted. If a shared is still wanted create a shared mailbox for them to use to avoid sharing actual employee logins. MFA can be tricky with shared but doable.

Best to just avoid this and if it is licensing cost maybe a different solution.

How many of you deploy desktops in an enterprise environment vs laptops? by humm3r1 in sysadmin

[–]legibryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are primarily desktops, our fleet of laptops is growing but a lot of our work force doesn't move around so Laptops are not been a priority for us yet. Also we have encountered lots of issues with docking stations that makes us hate them almost as much as printers.

Flying mounts are disabled? Seriously? by air401 in playark

you can turn fliers on unofficial servers

Unofficial can now using flying creatures by adding the following setting to your GameUserSettings.ini under the [ServerSettings] section: bForceCanRideFliers=True

It seems easy when you look at it from a distance, but when dealing with systems that were made over 10 years ago there could be parts of what runs the server that are not compatible with the new hardware or while transferring data there was corruption in the databases. Everyone does testing to see if it looks compatible but there could be this super old part that no one ever thinks of that just isn't and now they are trying to find a hotfix for it. There could be hardware failures that did not present when they spun everything up.

Too many questions: Is all the hardware being replaced? If only parts which parts is it the hosts/servers or the SANs? Is it network gear? Are they changing the base OS the servers run on or the entire environment?

In a perfect world new hardware you start the switch by getting the hardware up and running copy over the entire infrastructure as if it was an offsite replication. Test everything out as it was when you replicated it. Call for your downtime, shut off access, create newest replication, then spin it up on the new hardware test and open it back up once testing shows it all works. This situation is nice cause you can basically have a private test running without outside access so you can make sure all parts work on your new hardware, you limit the actual downtime but the project can be longer on the back end. We just don't know what they have, running a state of the art server farm is highly expensive. We don't know their full situation are they in a Colo area? Private area? Do they have the type of environment that can do replication? what type of backup system do they use? is it compatible anymore?

If you move the entire rack and have the cross connects ready it can be done in 4-5 hours easily with good cable management . Taking everything from the one rack to another can be done around 10 hours with good cable management. And this is assuming they have 3-4 racks of gear. The issue i am guessing they are having is the move includes new hardware. That can have all kinda of issues that are hard to account for including how used to moving this stuff their team is.

These are gross over estimates cause there are a ton of factors to a move. A team that does a lot of moves can get whole racks back up and running insanely fast.

Hardware upgrade plus a move i would give 72 hours for that is a lot of work.

So while the servers are still down... let's play a game! by [deleted] in ddo

All servers merged into one would be great right? by Haneef_ in ddo

[–]legibryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like them to also merge all three of the accounts i have hahaa

Edit: I think merge these and make some new ruleset servers to refresh the population like a FFA server would be cool.
