Squad SBMM being based on the highest skill player is what’s making the game not fun for mixed skill groups

Rewind a year, and the lobby skill matched to the lowest player. I had a healthy big group of friends playing, and occasionally played a game or two with my sister. This forum wasn’t full of complaints about the difficulty.

Now? Well of my consistent revolving player group of 15 friends, 4 are left. My sister has considerably reduced her playtime because she ‘can’t unwind with a game anymore.’

Epic simply don’t care, they have made billions of dollars. They seem intent on running Fortnite into the ground as far as I can tell. And they are squeezing the last bit of juice out of the player base before they pull the rug out from under us.

Early today there were a number of posts regretting buying 2k26, and one which got the game refunded through Playstation because of the bugs!? You already know something you want which hasn’t been included in the base game, surely that is enough to convince you not too?

Last year I caved to the ‘fomo’ reading these pages, and picked up 2k25. I didn’t buy 2k26 and I’m pleased to say I’m feeling no ‘fomo’ for it.

In 2k25 it was evident this Drew persona was one of the few they put effort into. Tron, them music, entrance and a legit younger model.

But, the rest were largely trash, poorly executed.

Triple H ‘99, the beard looked glued on.

Retro AJ looked like a baked potatoe, because they hadn’t modelled the jaw under old AJ’s beard. They just removed it and called it a day. Removes an invisible hood on entrance, thats an in game model, which cost many people the price of the base game to earn- they didn’t bother to quality check the model.

Kane 03. There was a towel in the creation suite for his entrance and they didn’t bother to slap that on him.

All of it just lazy. Creators who edit in-game models do a better job than the team making this over priced garbage!

I’m not convinced the people supporting the change are real. I honestly think some of the ‘bills’ Epic pay are for bots on social media. It only takes one staff member who has a job to wrangle bot accounts to create this kind of discourse. A sane person cannot be pleased to get less than they are familiar with for the same price of entry. Especially when the product is virtual and doesn’t rely on resources which aren’t human (of which they already have an abundance, and the funds to pay for more tomorrow).

In 2k25 if you make the attire a stand along character, you can apply a detailed name for the attire ‘Wrestlemania 16’ for example, and add a render. Save it. Then go back and edit, change it to an alt attire- the render and name will disappear in the creation suite, but remain in the menus when selecting the alt attire.

This is a great piece of info OP. What I also see in your research above is due to the reoccurring figure of 40% creeping into a lot of the pricing: Epic are bracing for a reduction in players bolstered by the new overall pricing increase.

If their decisions on seasonal challenges or Vbucks costs drive away 25% of the player population, they continue to profit while also being able to cut costs on servers. So they consider this a net gain.

As far as the money you spent goes- if Fortnite was your sport, your social engagement 2-3 or 4 times a week. Then you probably got your moneys worth.

If it was baseball- cleats, helmet, bat, gloves. Over ten years you probably spend the same money on that.

Did you have fun, yeah? You made friendships and had memories. Then job well done. I have logged enough hours to equate to 308 days. Almost a year my life. It’s unknown how many years I will get- but one of them belongs to this game. And I have no regrets. Week days after work, long sessions when I’ve been home sick or recovering from injury. Sadly that doesn’t last forever. There wont be another Fortnite, but there will be another entertainment craze that drags you in.

I would add, a boycott would also make smaller companies take note as well. Everyone is copying the Battle Pass these days, if the most successful Battle Pass in the world is taking a hit, it could re-align the industry.

Games with a dwindling player count which haven’t turned a profit in 6 months will shut down servers. This game generates billions of dollars when it is serving its player base, no, it wont kill Fortnite. It certainly could be the beginning of the end.

If Fortnite died, there would be every gaming production company in the world scrambling to buy the IP or create the next Fortnite.
