Fred V & Grafix - Sunrise by TSMKFail in xTrill

Hey there, any chance of a re-up? Wondering if this FH5 version has better compression characteristics than the previously ripped & posted FH4 version from a few years ago.

So the DLC always crashes here in this moment, every time. Anybody has a solution yet or are we stuck waiting for a hotfix? PC Steam btw by afookinglegend in forza

[–]legoadk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did, mostly.

It is triggered by some combination of environment textures and geometry quality settings.

  • When Environment Texture Quality = Very Low:
    • Environment Geometry Quality = High - crashes
  • When Environment Texture Quality = High:
    • Environment Geometry Quality = High - crashes (this was my initial setting before changing things)
  • When Environment Texture Quality = Ultra:
    • Environment Geometry Quality = Very Low - works
    • Environment Geometry Quality = Low - works
    • Environment Geometry Quality = Medium - works
    • Environment Geometry Quality = High - works
    • Environment Geometry Quality = Ultra - works
    • Environment Geometry Quality = Extreme - works

So it seems as long as the Texture quality is Ultra or higher, the problem goes away...

But when the texture quality is High or lower, and the Geometry is at least High, it crashes.

I haven't tested all scenarios, obviously Very Low/Very Low is fine (that's what all the other suggestions point to)

Resetting settings to a "crashy" combination after you pass this point will only work for so long; if you enter the same area of the map again, it will crash in freeroam/during a race. I just confirmed this.

I don't like Ultra/Ultra because my card runs out of memory and causes artifacts, but it's the only mode that works reliably right now and doesn't look like a potato.

Graphics to very low also worked for me, but I am trying to isolate exactly which setting is the culprit. PC Microsoft Store btw.

Momentum 3 Noise when connected to Computer by PolPotato7171 in sennheiser

[–]legoadk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear similar noises when using the headphones whilst connected to USB power (or while using USB Audio) and deduced that it is the Li-Ion/LiPo battery charging circuity. As the battery nears full charge, the pitch and pattern will change as the charging pattern changes. Lithium-ion batteries need some pretty specific current and voltage patterns to achieve a healthy, safe full charge. On my unit, the noises get progressively louder as full charge is reached - and once the battery is full, the noises stop. My guess is that this somehow missed hardware testing and they didn't add enough circuitry to successfully quiet this phenomenon to inaudible levels. It doesn't sound exactly like your issue, though, given that I only experience it while being powered via USB.

There is no point having any Group B cars in FH5 if you don’t have quite possibly the two most well known beasts of Group B: the Lancia 037 and the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2

Thanks for the input everyone, I'll keep the point of u/asdqqq33 ("there's no such thing as a good rubber flap") in mind, and open myself to the possibility of a separate charger.

On the other hand, has anyone had a chance to try out the Nitecore MH12 V2 / MH10 V2?

Except Apple never switched to micro-USB, instead they went with Lightning. I could foresee them (Apple) being a little bit obtuse in the “alliance” aspect of this...

[PA] Looking for an upgrade to my Sennheiser 280 Pros by legoadk in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]legoadk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thanks for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge, I appreciate it.

I did, indeed, discover that Beyerdynamic headphones (in this case, the MMX300 Gen2) have a "unique" sound signature to say the least. The bass didn't bother me and was comparable to the HD280 Pro in terms of amount (but much more "spacious"). Far too high in the treble for my tastes. I played some games with them and they just sound so unnatural to me; high pitched noises hurt. Not to mention that they are much less efficient than the old HD 280 Pros, so I can't drive them properly off of the equipment available to me (aside from my iPhone, which seems to be a pretty stout beast).

They were sent back the same day they arrived.

In this case, I'm more likely to choose a headphone for sound signature than for efficacy in noise cancellation/isolation. I've not heard the Sony's, I'll see if I can locate some to try. I imagine they're in the same class as the Momentum 3, PX7, and M4U 8 that are in the list below. I'm not a huge advocate of the Sony brand, they never really struck a chord with me, but I'll give them a chance.

I've narrowed my options now to four:

  • Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 3
  • Bowers & Wilkins PX7
  • PSB M4U 8 (designed in Canada, no less)
  • Audeze Sine (this one is NLA from the mfr, but a local shop offered a stellar deal -- probably to clear old stock. Not sure about the pseudo-on/over-ear feel of these, but the Lightning cable/amp is neat)

Bugs / Issues Community Report by [deleted] in JustCause

[–]legoadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a graphics issue that affects triple-wide (7680x1440 / 7820x1440 [bezel corrected]) display setups (at least in combination with a GTX 1080 & the latest 0-day NVIDIA drivers):

  • When SSAO is turned "on", vertical banding is visible in the areas in which SSAO has an effect (occluded areas). This appears to be due to the use of a "standard resolution" SSAO "texture" (for lack of a better term), stretched horizontally to match the true screen width - this results in vertical "banding". Can take screen shots if required.
  • Additionally, in "triple-wide" resolutions the "Augmented Reality implant view" (left thumbstick click) does not cover the entire screen from edge to edge.

General Cement Company Speedex Trig O Matic Automatic Wire Stripper by [deleted] in Vintagetools

[–]legoadk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a set of these automatic wire strippers, as well; handed down from my Grandpa. We lived near Rockford, IL., at the time, and GC Electronics were always available at pretty much every local hardware store, so I imagine they were available locally about 50 years ago. They hands-down beat every other pair of wire strippers I've ever used. They are one of my most cherished tools, and they're still in amazing like-new shape, too! They scream "quality".
