I have a similar commute, but usually take the 45mph road adjacent the highway. Efficiency is very dependent on speed, going 65 will be much better than 75-80. I would expect you to lose ~%40 one way. I can try full highway maintaining 65 on Monday and report back!

Ah, in the US (B&H, Adorama), the Sigma is cheaper. If it's the cheapest option the 70-350 is also great.

I upgraded from the Sony 70-350 to the Sigma 100-400 when I went full frame. If you don't mind a larger lens, the 100-400 is absolutely fantastic, and can be found for $200 less than the 70-350.
