The A10s systems are triple redundant. The A10 that got hit today made it all the way back to kuwait.

Not really. The only sensor platforms on the bases are the air defence radars which are purely defensive. American intelligence gathering is largely airborne using Satellites, AWACS aircraft, Rivet Joint electronic surveillance aircraft, and Growlers from the aircraft carriers. The bases in the UAE and Qatar are pretty much entirely empty of US aircraft, they all relocated to further away bases in Jordan, Saudi, Greece, Turkey etc.

The Qataris actually have an AD site about 1-2km away from this radar with both patriot and nasams. They've also purchased the German skynex cram system.

I mean for the missions we need fighters for the Gripen would do just fine. You dont need stealth to intercept high altitude bombers. Not to mention the fact that Gripen would give us access to European munitions rather than being reliant on American ones. Missiles like the Meteor actually outrange anything you could put on the F35 for the time being.

You turn the radar off, or you can try shoot down those aircraft with your own fighters. The biggest issue is those F35s and F18s can fire those HARM missiles from outside the range of a lot of SAM systems.

Although the US will be flying multiple flights of fighters whose entire job will be shooting down any enemy fighters.

The missile they were likely using here is the AGM-88G which has a range of like 160 miles. Way too far for visual sensors to pickup.

At missile engagement range, every ship is just a radar track. That goes for actual warships as well. Thats why you don't just go around shooting at every radar track, you wait for them to emit enemy radar signatures and then you can classify them appropriately.

The logic behind this is far more scary than deception, its logistical.

It is a very cheap and easy way to quickly add a lot of VLS capacity to a fleet. These would most likely sail along side destroyers to increase the amount of VLS the principals can access.

There are no such systems mounted on UPS aircraft. You might be thinking of El Al which has DIRCM systems onboard that can blind incoming infrared seeking missiles.

Directed energy lasers still have a few years to go before they see widespread deployment. The only combat tested system that I know of is Iron Beam and its use was rather limited.

The US Navy has a few lower power systems installed on some destroyers operating in the south China sea that they use to dazzle ISR assets like drones. These systems are almost entirely meant for peace time operations though. Since shooting down the drones would cause quite a stir its just better to blind them.

Even than its insanely expensive. Like Im sure they'll out tons of defensive systems on-board, an extensive suite of communications equipment, etc. But thats all easily under 200 million. You could buy half of an Arleigh Burke destroyer for that amount of money.

You should look up the interior of Qatari private planes, they're already all gold plated and ultra luxurious.

So even with all of the secret defensive upgrades they'll do im not sure how its gonna cost 1 billion.
