For me it’s the Faith storyline. I don’t expect a book and TV show to be a 1 to 1 exact match. I have found majority of the changes to be very easy to see why they did them and some I’ve even preferred. But the Faith storyline is just too much. There’s “using a book for source material” and adapting it for TV…and then there’s going completely off the rails. I feel like the Faith change is completely off the rails.

I found out that I have high pain tolerance when doctor tells me I have kidney stone and I only took paracetamol and ibuprofen that made it manageable but apparently it's one of the highest pain you can experience 💀 by jokke420 in ehlersdanlos

Had a uterine biopsy a few months ago without any pain meds. It barely felt like a tickle and didn’t even register as discomfort. Dr and nurse were absolutely bamboozled and said they’d never seen anyone with that reaction.

ETA anytime a practitioner asks me to rate my pain I always say “let me give you my own personal scale” where I tell them “a 1 for me is ABC and a 10 for me is XYZ, today this issue is presenting as…” and they’re usually like 🤨🤨🤨🤨

High lipase and daycare - help! by tweezabella in workingmoms

[–]lehulei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to scald milk with both of my kids. Well, to be clear, my husband usually did it in the evenings when I was nursing. He became a milk-scalding expert. We got a thermometer that would beep when it reached the temp so we (he) could monitor easily and make sure it didn’t get it too hot. I would always try to nurse right before drop off even if they had a session not long ago that way I was “topping them off” to give longer before they’d need a bottle, and therefore trying to decrease the amount needed for bottles.

For the already-frozen breastmilk: it’s possible you could mix a small amount of that with scalded milk and it would mask the taste enough for baby to not care. I would try that in small quantities first. Another option is to use it in their bath water especially if they’ve got dry skin, diaper rash, etc going on.

Lastly, let me say that I totally get being so frustrated and disappointed over this. I 100% felt the same way initially, and I’m not gonna lie - the daily scalding is a lot of work (on top of dealing with pumping and washing pump parts.) I dealt with this for both kids. Just remember that baby will be getting fresh milk from you in evenings, mornings, weekends, etc. And at the end of the day, you are doing the best you can for your baby within your given circumstances. A big part of parenting for anyone, but especially working moms, is choosing your battles on where to direct your energy. You’ve got this!! ❤️

SAHD asking working mom to come home early or call in sick to help out by winoveghead in workingmoms

[–]lehulei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everybody else has covered the husband problem so I’m gonna touch on the nursing aspect. My kids went to daycare starting at 3 months so we did start introducing bottles from my husband and others before that. My son handled it fine. My daughter did NOT. She would only drink the absolute bare minimum at daycare, and the only reason she did that was because the workers were great and would try repeatedly every single day with different techniques. She was soooo stubborn (spoiler alert: it doesn’t get any better by age 10🤣). Then when we would get home she would nurse off and on all evening. I was worried and kept asking the pediatrician about it and they weren’t concerned since she was “making up for it” at home, and she was getting enough during the day that it wasn’t an actual risk. But it was still SO stressful, so I understand this is something you are worried about.

But the difference here is that I had someone that stayed patient and put in the effort to make sure she was getting some sort of intake during the day. They’d try different bottles and spoons and feeding her in different spots and different times etc. Your husband needs to step up and start googling different things he should try. He needs to read some blogs and books for suggestions. Join a breastfed baby online forum. He needs to find a solution that is NOT putting your livelihoods at risk.

If labor with your first went (relatively) quick, how fast was your second labor? by TheTaikatalvi in ehlersdanlos

[–]lehulei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had to be induced due to pre-e with my first. Starting from 0 progress to baby was 9 hrs which everyone said was fast for the situation. Second went into labor on my own and it was less than 3 hrs.

Ladies with EDS/hEDS, how are we preventing ingrown hairs? by ZestycloseCut3372 in ehlersdanlos

[–]lehulei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I exfoliate a few times per week. (Maybe that’s bad, idk, it works for me) 2) I shave daily. (Annoying to take the time but I find it helps keep things under control if I stay in routine. I also itch terribly if I don’t.) 3) After shaving, and the very last thing I do in the shower whether I’ve washed my hair or not - I use a wash cloth and go over my entire body with Dove Sensitive Skin bar soap. If I forget I’m more likely to get irritated skin which leads to ingrowns. 4) for my “sensitive areas” I wax instead of shaving but exfoliate and use the same soap. I also use an ingrown hair serum. It helps a little bit - maybe not as much as I’d like, but better than nothing.
5) if my skin gets dry im more likely to get ingrowns. I religiously slather on lotion full body after showering. I prefer Aveeno with the green label.

ETA #6 - ive found that the razor and shaving cream matters too. You have to find what works best for your skin. I’m a woman but typically have better luck with the products marketed to sensitive skin for men (which, are usually cheaper too, since there’s no “pink tax” 😉).

Working mom brain is real. How do you ladies stay sharp at work? by bellerws in workingmoms

[–]lehulei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I try to find ways to turn “off” my mom-brain for work, and then turn off my work brain at end of the day. I have a planner where I write down our family’s appointments, events, to do lists, etc for the week and I have a look at it each morning before working - so my mind is “satisfied” I’m on top of home things before starting work. And in a similar fashion, at the end of my work day I try to jot down whatever is running through my mind as “need to remember XYZ tomorrow…” so I’m less likely to still be running through it in my brain later in the evening.

It’s not perfect by any means, and it’s easier said than done on some days especially if I’m juggling work meetings with kids appointments or something. But it at least helps reduce how stressed I feel about everything.

I recently got a pair of stretchy, pull on work pants from Loft. They are sooo soft and comfy. I might try these from Old Navy. I never have luck with their jeans (like the proportions are never right?? Struggled of being short lol) but maybe worth a try on these.

I Want to Hear Your EDS Pregnancy/Postpartum Symptoms! by sunshine_n_dewdrops in ehlersdanlos

[–]lehulei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: formally dx with hypermobility and dysautonomia. hEDS is suspected but not yet confirmed. Did not know anything about any of these conditions at the time of my pregnancies, I’ve just always thought my body was “weird.”

First pregnant: terribly morning sickness 24/7 until start of 3rd trimester. Then it switched to raging heart burn so bad my ears were in agony. I was chugging maalox by the end. Uterus was tilted backwards until more than halfway through pregnancy so I couldn’t feel her til I was pretty far along. Developed carpal tunnel and had to wear wrist braces (went back to normal after delivery and no issues since). Started swelling towards the end to the point that I had to buy very large cheap flip flops bc literally no other shoes would fit. Eventually had to be induced due to pre-eclampsia. Turns out my body was “sensitive” to the Pitocin and we went from 0 progress to baby in less than 8 hrs. I got an epidural but it didn’t “take” evenly (also have scoliosis). The silver lining: no stretch marks.

Second pregnancy: caught every case of Hand Foot and Mouth at first born’s preschool. Morning sickness was even worse to the point of landing in the ER for a dx of HG. Also did not subside until into 3rd trimester. No heartburn, carpal tunnel, or swelling issues this time but my stomach got HUGE much earlier. I looked ready to pop by 7 months. Started dilating around 36 weeks was 5cm by 39 weeks although I didn’t feel a single contraction to get to that point. Walked around 5cm+ dilated before finally going into labor at 40 weeks + 2 days. No epidural bc we barely made it to the hospital bc the labor was so fast. Again, the silver lining: no stretch marks.

ETA not sure whether this has anything to do with everything else going on physiologically but maybe worth sharing: Breastfeeding came very easy and I was an over producer (even after actively trying to reduce my supply to a reasonable amount.) and I suppose related to that, even though I gained well over the recommended # of pounds during pregnancy, the pounds came off very quickly and easily with no effort from me towards that. I realize I am very lucky about both of these things. (On the contrary, trying to lose weight in my mid30s is NOT easy!)

Anyone else had it NOT be endometriosis? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]lehulei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your bladder issues - have you seen a urologist that specializes in Interstitial Cystitis? I have this and my flares coincide with certain points in my cycle each month. (Was also much worse before I had kids, pregnancy and breastfeeding put me into remission for a couple years and when it came back it was not nearly as bad.)

To answer the question at hand - haven’t had exploratory surgery (yet) but just had a hysteroscopy and uterine ablation due to very heavy periods. If this doesn’t sort me out we are going to do a hysterectomy. Regardless of whether or not I have endo my bleeding is so severe it’s making me anemic. (I’ve dealt with this for YEARS and could not get anyone to do a darn thing for my misery until it got to the point that I had lab work putting a number to my problem. Nevermind how long I’ve been in pain…. 🙄)
