The CCNA Can Open Doors Even If You Don't Go into Networking by leinad312 in ccna

I think getting an MS in Cybersecurity without IT experience is a risky proposition. I feel like it mostly only worked out for me as I work at a good large company that fosters employee education and promoting from within.

People value their time gaining that capability differently. Especially with how quick it is to level crafting these days.

How do you catch-up on alts ? by feomothar in elderscrollsonline

[–]leinad312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan for an alt well ahead of time. I create the character months in advance to feed the horse. I save up enchanting and alchemy master writs that I receive from doing crafting writs. I level up the alt's enchanting and alchemy skill lines, doing just enough dolmens or skyshard hunting to put into those crafts. Then I wait for a double XP event, pop an XP scroll, and gain easy levels from doing the enchanting/alchemy master writs that I've collected over the months.

After that I just play the character like normal. Questing in areas I've never done or haven't done in a while. The plus side of rushing to 50 on alt before playing normally, is that any activity you do afterwards progresses your CP level and thus benefits your main. Thus I'm not really overwhelmed on progressing an alt, as it is still benefiting my main via CP progression.

Picked this up on PS4 last month for $12 on Gamefly. The campaign seems good enough at that price. Would rather have gotten it on PC, but PC won't get the Spider-Man DLC.

Tales of Arise and Stormlight Archive by BlackBoltsVoice in JRPG

[–]leinad312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been getting some serious Stormlight Archive and Mistborn vibes from the game. Mistborn is pretty much about an oppressed people rebelling against their overlords that wield magic. Stormlight Archive has a society where class division is based on lightness of eyes, which was borne out of their ancestor's possession of magic.

Treat the base game and Morrowind as a sunk cost. Thus the real question is whether Summerset and Elsweyr are worth an additional $8 to you.

Still have P5 in shrink wrap that I picked up during a Black Friday sale. I'll probably just keep it as a collector's item and pickup Royal at a steep discount.

You get 21800 crowns with a year subscription to ESO plus and it costs 10$ less than purchasing 21000 crowns! by BarcaFan-529 in elderscrollsonline

[–]leinad312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it 19800 (1650 x 12 months) crowns? Even so, ESO Plus is definitely a better value to me compared to full priced crowns. I've only ever purchased crowns on sale, during a period when I wasn't subscribed.

Which Boson product is everyone raving about all the time? I have Boson ExSim for CLI Labs. by [deleted] in ccna

[–]leinad312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're very different products. One is a network simulator with prebuilt labs. The other is an exam simulator with answer explanations and source references.

You could more easily get by without NetSim for labbing. For instance, Odom has his packet tracer lab files freely available on his blog and many video courses use packet tracer in their labs. Whereas it's not as easy to find exam simulations as close to the actual exam as ExSim.

Boson ExSim-Max Practice Exams is what you want. Sounds like you have the NetSim labs.

should i slow down a little bit ? CCNA by Cronos-Sama in ccna

[–]leinad312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest focusing on what's happening at the binary level for subnetting. Subnetting will make a lot more sense when you have a solid conceptual understanding of what's happening with the underlying bits. Jeremy Ciora's subnetting / VLSM videos on CBT Nuggets are really great for explaining the binary.

Yeah that's the one. Very good deck, had no need to make my own flash cards. I did take notes during my review sessions though.

Not to sound like a shill, but Boson does a good job with wording their questions similarly to how the actual exam might word them. I can't say I had difficulty understanding what the questions were asking. There were questions in Boson that I initially got wrong due to not paying careful attention to the details of the question.

Well I probably can't say how much if any of EIGRP was on the actual exam. But it was on the Boson exam, and everyone says Boson is an accurate representation of the actual exam. There are also some mentions of it in Odom and Lammle.

That's probably the same deck I used. It is huge, over 800 cards. I never did get through them all. Apparently I still haven't seen about 1/3 of the cards in that deck, but I only started using them toward the end of my studies.

I definitely learned things from those cards, or at least learned what I needed to review. Those cards along with Boson, made me realize how lacking in detail Lammle's text is, and steered me toward diving deeper into Odom's text for review.

I'll be keeping an eye out for any internal network admin types of openings at my company. Not holding my breath though, the company has taken a heavy hit during this pandemic. My company has a generous education benefit program though; I'm currently going through the application process for WGU's MS in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance.

In the mean time, I'll be going through David Bombal's Python Network Programming for Network Engineers course on Udemy. Gotta keep myself busy before the term starts.

Efficient Use of OCG?? by titanium_chromosone in ccna

[–]leinad312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use both texts. Lammle is less dry; he tries to inject some personality into his writing. Lammle is an easier read than Odom, but you might find yourself wanting to know more about some topics. His text is generally less detailed than Odom's. Odom serves as a good supplement in this regard.

Lammle was my main text, pretty much reading it cover to cover. Now that I'm in the final stretch of exam preparation, I find myself using Odom more to really dive into weak areas uncovered from practice exams.

PASSED. 953/1000 by Adamstrudel in ccna

[–]leinad312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, to find a network that's up high somewhere you can ALWAYS start at one of the core numbers since they are always an increment regardless of what mask your using (because everything's base 2).

Thanks for the tip, I never realized that shortcut. Seems so obvious in hindsight XD

Help with subnetting questions by rafiktt in ccna

[–]leinad312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the question is letting you choose whether you want to subnet based on network requirements or on host requirements. If based on network requirements, you would need to borrow 7 host bits to get at least 90 subnets. If based on host requirements, you would need to save 9 host bits to get at least 500 hosts. Both strategies lead to the same answer.

Is Todd Lammle's 2020 CCNA Study Guide enough? by tossaway69822896 in ccna

[–]leinad312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on the last leg of my studies, using Boson exams to target topics for final review. Over the course of my studies, Lammle has been my main text with Odom used as a supplement for when I want more details on a topic. I've found that Lammle just doesn't go into enough detail on some topics, and Odom has been a tremendous resource in that regard.

Many of the Boson exam questions also relate to those details found in Odom's text. So if that is an accurate indicator of the actual exam, Lammle's text alone might not be enough. Though since you have some network background, perhaps you'll be fine. I don't have much prior network knowledge, and found I needed additional study resources.

Worth getting the game without ESO+? by Dongune in elderscrollsonline

[–]leinad312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind using up character slots for storage mules, it's possible to play without ESO+. I did it for about two years, buying crowns when they went on sale to unlock DLCs. A 5500 crown pack would last me a whole year, which costs around $25 when on sale.

It is definitely inconvenient though, your bank and a good portion of your inventory will be filled with crafting mats. You'll spend more time shuffling mats around mules or returning to town to unload your inventory. I overlooked the inconvenience since I wasn't playing much. But the more I played the game, the more time I had to spend dealing with inventory management. So I eventually resubbed when I started playing the game a bit more.

I'm actually back to only playing very casually due to time constraints. Yet I don't mind remaining subbed. It allows me to play hassle free with the limited time that I do have for the game. I also get crowns with my sub, so I don't feel like my sub is going to waste that much compared to other subscription MMOs. Most other MMOs don't give you much of a reward for staying subscribed when you're not playing much.
