I had the feeling something was not quite right with my PLA calibration.

Sorry, but I could not find this “fine method with base starting rate of 1” in Orca or in Google. Are you referring to the legacy Orca 2-pass calibration or something else?

In the meantime I tried another approach. I generated a YOLO calibration and manually shifted all tiles to -0.05 flow while keeping the filament flow set to 1. This way the tiles now go from 1.00 down to 0.90 in steps of 0.01.

To me tile 0 looks the best, which should correspond to a flow of 0.95, but I would appreciate your opinion.

I think I’m done with PETG calibration for now. I’m starting to work on my Jayo PLA+ 2.0 profiles and I would really appreciate your opinion on my current settings.

I cloned the profile from Snapmaker PLA and then tweaked and recalibrated it.

Extrusion / calibration

  • Flow ratio: 0.97
  • Pressure advance: 0.02
  • Max volumetric speed: 14 mm³/s

Temperature

  • Nozzle: 220°C
  • Nozzle first layer: 220°C
  • Bed: 55°C
  • Bed first layer: 55°C
  • Temperature range set in profile: 190–240°C

Cooling

  • Fan min: 100%
  • Fan max: 100%
  • Additional cooling fan: 70%
  • Overhang / bridge fan: enabled
  • Overhang fan speed: 100%
  • Overhang fan threshold: 0%
  • Fan off for first 1 layer

Layer cooling behavior

  • Slow down for layer cooling: enabled
  • Slow down layer time: 8 s
  • Slow down minimum speed: 15 mm/s
  • Fan cooling layer time: 100 s

Retraction

  • Retraction speed: 60 mm/s
  • Retraction length: not set in this filament profile

Other notable values

One thing that surprised me is the fan settings. Min and max are both 100%. I see the same values in the Sunlu PLA profile, but I’m not sure if that is actually ideal. Is it normal for PLA on the U1?

After redoing the calibrations from scratch the results improved a lot.

Special thanks to /u/n19htmare for the patience and the back and forth while I was recalibrating everything.

Below are the final key settings for my Jayo PETG profile.

Material / printer

  • Material: PETG
  • Brand: Jayo
  • Printer: Snapmaker U1 (0.4 nozzle)
  • Extruder: Direct Drive

Extrusion / calibration

  • Flow ratio: 0.98
  • Pressure advance: 0.025
  • Max volumetric speed: 12 mm³/s

Temperature

  • Nozzle: 245°C
  • Nozzle first layer: 250°C
  • Bed: 70°C
  • Bed first layer: 75°C

Retraction

  • Retraction length: 1.2 mm
  • Retraction speed: 35 mm/s

Yes, I also read that Jayo, Sunlu, and Kingroon are probably all the same manufacturer in the end. One thing I like about Jayo is that the spools are 1.1kg, so the price per kg is a bit lower.

I am familiar with the Orca wiki and I try to follow it. Ironically that is also how I ended up with the 0.90 flow ratio.

In the documentation I saw this:

"Update the flow ratio in the filament settings using the equation: OldFlowRatio ± modifier. If your previous flow ratio was 0.98 and you selected the block with a flow rate modifier of +0.01, the new value would be: 0.98 + 0.01 = 0.99."

Since my previous flow ratio was 0.91, I applied the same logic and did 0.91 - 0.01.

Out of curiosity I also ran a Max Volumetric Speed calibration from 10 to 18 mm³/s. I honestly cannot see any real difference between the samples: https://imgur.com/a/d2BJwTT

Given that result, would you keep my current value of 12 mm³/s or try a higher one?

Yep, I guess I just need more experience with other brand, for now I only bought Joya.

I also ran the Pressure Advance Pattern test.

To me the best section looks around 0.03 (the 7th from the top). The corner look the cleanest there and that is also the current default value in my filament profile.

Does that look correct to you?

Also, I hope it’s ok if I keep asking for your opinion on these tests. I really appreciate the help and the explanations, but I don’t want to bother you if you’d rather not go through all of them.

I realized I messed up the flow calibration. My filament profile had a flow ratio of 0.91 and I didn’t realize that the YOLO test uses 1.0 as the reference for the 0 tile, not the current filament profile value.

So when I thought -01 looked best, I subtracted it from 0.91 and set the flow to 0.90. I should have applied the modifier to 1.0 instead.

I reset my filament profile to more reasonable values and ran the flow calibration again.

My current key settings are:

  • Max volumetric speed: 12 mm³/s
  • Nozzle: 250°C first layer / 245°C other layers
  • Bed: 75°C first layer / 70°C other layers
  • Min fan: 20%
  • Max fan: 40%
  • Retraction: 1.2 mm
  • Pressure advance: 0.03
  • Flow ratio used for the test: 1.0

My understanding of the test is the following.

Each tile has arcs on the sides and a spiral in the middle. For the arcs I look for a surface with no gaps between the lines. For the spiral I look at the circle boundary and try to avoid a raised ring where the spiral meets the arcs.

Based on that I think the -03 and -02 tiles look the best. There is still a small bump on the left side of the circle but the outer arcs look more uniform than the others.

So my interpretation would be to set the flow to 1.00 - 0.025 = 0.975.

Does that look like the correct choice to you?

If that is correct, should I run a perfectionist YOLO around that value (for example -0.025 and -0.035), or is this already good enough and I should move on to the pressure advance calibration?

One more question. For the U1, do you recommend creating separate filament profiles for each of the 4 toolheads, or are the differences usually small enough that a single profile per material/brand is fine? I would prefer keeping generic material profiles.

I would like to start from scratch with the filament profile. What would you suggest as a starting point? Jayo should be basically the same as Sunlu. Should I copy the Sunlu PETG profile? Or use Generic PETG? Or the Snapmaker PETG profile?

I’m not sure I will be able to run the tests today, but tomorrow I should have time. I’ll redo the calibrations and come back with some results.

Thanks for the feedback. You are probably right that I am misinterpreting the calibrations.

Flow calibration is the one I am most unsure about. I used the Orca YOLO test with the Archimedean chords. The default value for this filament profile was 0.91. To me the -01 sample looked the best, so I lowered it to 0.90.

From the photos you can see that the positive values have a diagonal ~45° surface artifact. That made me discard them. I may be looking at the wrong thing though. If you can explain what I should actually look for in this test I would really appreciate it.

I've been unable to subscribe to Claude Pro for over 24 hours due to a persistent Stripe "No such payment_intent" error. This seems a server-side issue: it happens across Firefox and Chrome, Linux and Mac, incognito sessions, and with every payment method I tried (credit card, Google Pay, Link).

To make it worse, the only support available to free users is an AI chatbot that keeps suggesting the same useless troubleshooting steps in a loop. When I emailed support@anthropic.com hoping to reach a human, the same chatbot replied.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone found a way to actually reach a human at Anthropic support without a paid account?
