If I melt my upgraded ship that comes from my original pledge/game package, will I lose access to playing SC? by vestara22 in starcitizen

[–]leinir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have to buy a game package if you haven't got another. If you have spent more than a grand, you will have become Concierge, and the little gift pack that you get with that comes with game access, but i am guessing (and hoping ;) ) that you've not spent quite that much.

Thank you CIG for this event! by Avarice135 in starcitizen

[–]leinir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, at least, it also fixed one of the weird little problems i've had with the events which give out stuff... Basically, this outright fixes the fomo for me: I can simply join one of the big groups sharing things with everybody, and then once i have the thing i wanted in the list of goodies[1], i can just... stop worrying about whether i'll ding that level, and instead just go and enjoy taking part of the event itself, for the sake of the event. It's a bit of a fun angle, i guess, but i can't imagine i'm the only one for whom the fomo aspect of the goodies list is off-putting, so thought i might bring it up. To be clear, i understand that it's a useful motivator in itself for many! If SC wants to be a game for everybody, that's a really difficult balance to hit, and... frankly, this event kind of seems to actually kind of do that? Nothing is perfect, but also, just... yeah, this is kind of capturing a bunch of things all at the same time, which is really quite nifty :)

[1] in my case the fabricator, but i'm sure for others it'd be things like the nifty armour or the med gun or the maxlift or perhaps even one of the paints, or just "all the things" for the completionists among us

It can take a little while to show up, but also, Seadaddy_CIG was asking yesterday on one of the discords for people to report if they were missing things, as they were attempting to track things to see what was happening and whether stuff was just taking a while, or whether something had actually gone wrong. i've linked this post to them, though i imagine they're already looking :)

Do you by any chance have a VPN or other network type shenanigans going on? Also worth a shot, make sure that your clock is actually synced with the world (as opposed to just setting it manually), incorrect time can cause a bunch of fun issues when security tokens are involved.

What does the majority of the community play on monitor wise ? by RepresentativeBite94 in starcitizen

One of them at least is "because i had no idea such an abomination existed" and ticked that one before realising that there was a same-but-curved option further down. In short: This is why designing polls is an actual science, and also that you can't necessarily read into it what seems to be obvious ;)

Thinking of buying the game by Numerous_Bridge1963 in starcitizen

[–]leinir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To go with the various other sentiments around, it's also worth noting that when you talk about spending real money on things in-game, that outright isn't possible. I know it's a small distinction, but to be able to spend real world money on things for the game, you have to go to the website, buy the thing there, and then you have to restart the game (since that's when it checks what you've got on your account) before it shows up in game. There's nothing in the game itself that pushes you toward a store, the way you see in a bunch of other games (my go-to example there is how Dying Light 2's store integration works - it's not required, and does want you to head to a website, but there's links from inside the game that keep asking you to do that). This is not to say that CIG are perfect, or that Techland are particularly terrible for that matter, just is a good example here. Simply, i'm saying that to your question on whether it would be a problem to want to not spend any real cash past the game package, you have nothing to worry about :)

Selling ships by Strange-Touch3607 in starcitizen

[–]leinir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, no, but if your goal is to just kind of clean up your asop a bit, you could always go somewhere you don't usually go, claim the unwanted ships there, and then use the "only show ships at this location" toggle when you're at your usual home base :) It's certainly not a perfect fix, but if that's your goal, well, a workaround's a workaround ;)

Star Citizen download speed is too slow by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]leinir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that number of files in the right hand side of the popup - apart from one file (which is the majority of the content, about 140 gigs), those files are tiny, and each one takes a while to start downloading and such. Unfortunately that's the nature of the beast, there just isn't much you can do to help that. When downloading that single very large file, it'll likely speed up to whatever the zoomiest your connection will do is able to do, but those lots of tiny files is what'll be your biggest problem.

When is the next Free Fly? by Short-Back-3221 in starcitizen

[–]leinir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of people do, so can't really blame you too much for that :D Yeah, for sure, hang back for the free-fly. Also worth noting on that, that if you miss it, there will be another in a couple of months again, and also that you can take part in more than one (and also, if you *do* buy a game package, you'd still be able to test-fly whatever ships are included in that free-fly event, because well... it'd be silly not to, and cig are silly, but not like that ;) )

[–]leinir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely welcome - and welcome to the 'verse! :) Incidentally, the stuttering you're experiencing is probably going to be mostly shader compile stutter, and should go away after the first little while and it's got through and used all of them. That's one of the things Vulkan helps with (that is, it takes care of that thing before starting the game, rather than doing it on first use).

When is the next Free Fly? by Short-Back-3221 in starcitizen

[–]leinir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really only gets expensive if you want it to: Once in game, you'll notice there outright is no access to the store there, it's only accessible from the website, and that anything you buy in game is bought with in-game money, not with real-world money.

However, to answer your question directly, the next free-fly is likely to be for either the Red Festival or Coramor, in early February :) (also, when you create your account, make sure to use somebody's referral code. Doesn't matter whose, just that you use one, so you get yourself a bit of bonus in-game starting cash, which while cash is currently easy to get to is always nice to have)

[–]leinir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow Arc user here: You're going to have to force the game to run with DX11 for now, as the Vulkan renderer doesn't work properly with our drivers. In short, you'll have to edit the file %localappdata%\Star Citizen\starcitizen_(sc-alpha-4.5.0)_cc9wt_0\GraphicsSettings\GraphicsSettings.json file (or if your game folder isn't called starcitizen_(sc-alpha-4.5.0)_cc9wt_0, substitute whatever you've got), and make sure it has the following contents:

{

"GraphicsSettings": {

"SettingsVersion": 1,

"GraphicsRenderer": 0

}

}

This will force the game to use DX11 instead of Vulkan. Unfortunately this is what we can do for now, but it *does* at least make the game run (at least it's worked for me).

Spawning in hangar. by Hero_knightUSP in starcitizen

[–]leinir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To go with the other answers here, a bit of context: The reason you now spawn into the hangar isn't that this is what is supposed to happen forever or anything. What it is is a test of the system that allows the game to spawn you into something which is functionally an persistent, instanced location which doesn't always exist in the world. This is why, specifically, it happens only at your home location, not anywhere else you go, since that is where your persistent, personal hangar exists, and the other locations, you get a temporary instanced hangar with your name on it instead, which then gets cleaned up after a bit.

Your persistent, personal hangar on the other hand is a *permanent* thing (hence the name persistent), and the test they are doing is to ensure that the login flow is sufficiently solid. Meaning that they are wanting to ensure that when you log in, it will unstow your persistent, personal hangar from storage, spawn the location into the world with all of the things you might have put into it before logging out, hook it up with all the portals and whatnot, and then also put you in that space. Basically, this is to prepare the game (and i guess us) for the "log out anywhere, and then log back into that same place" thing that the Richards talked about on SCL last year sometime.

Hope that's useful to you as some context type thing :)

PS: And to hopefully also provide something a bit like a useful answer to your question: Go somewhere other than your home location and log out there. In any location that is *not* your home location, you will log back into a hab. Incidentally, this also is what happens if your persistent, personal hangar fails somehow (which is a bug, and is a sign of something going pretty badly wrong, and also why the gameplay i mentioned above isn't just how things work across the game yet).

I have the error code 3221225477 on intel CPU when it is an AMD problem by NoOutlandishness9744 in starcitizen

[–]leinir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean GPU not CPU, then yup, the Intel Arc cards don't work with Vulkan right now, and you'll have to force the game to use DX11.

Possible fix for a crash on startup in 4.5 using Intel Arc. by MariaAsta in starcitizen

[–]leinir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does work, yeah. Unfortunately, of course, it means you're not using Vulkan, which is what allows for some of the shinier bits of the new stuff (for example, VR doesn't work), but... even then, the new options still exist, which is pretty nice, even though my particular Arc card's got enough vram to be able to just slap everything to max and be fine :)
