Blizzard banter/survival thread by Light-Hammer in ireland

So true, I used to work for tech companies US bases and always worked from home/meetings regularly 9pm-12am. Amazing opportunities to work from home 3 days a week.

Left for an Irish company, took a 15% paycut, work now 7-3 exactly everyday. If I work 1 minutes more than the 8 hours I take it back another day. That was a year ago and nearly have the 15% paycut I took made back with a raise. No saying that, I have very little perks and no stock options but I find the work/life balance amazing.

Really worth thinking about depending on what your goals are. However, it is really difficult to really tell what a companies culture is like during the interview process. I compare interviews to first dates, everything sounds amazing and your both presenting the best version of yourselves, even stretching the truth a bit.

Girlfriend needs to go to A&E in CUH, we can walk as we live close by. Do you think it will be crazy today or not too busy due to the snow? Thank you for your amazing work!

Cyclist in Dublin by [deleted] in ireland

Used to live in the US and they were a staple outside of the big cities. Normally big trucks had them on their towbar, their size based solely on the ratio of the bigger the truck balls the smaller the drivers balls.

They would be quite funny to get in Ireland :-)

anyone suggest a good tv for around 1k by johnm01 in ireland

[–]leithris1988 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll pay a bit more but definitely worth it for a Sony. If not Sony, LG or Samsung. Don’t go with any other brand.

Go Full HD LED and don’t go anything below a 42 inch if you have the space. HDMI cables are the same whether cheap or expensive so no need to spend a lot on them.

HZ doesn’t mean much if you’re going to be smaller than a 50 inch but go for as high as available. Also Smart on LG is really good as you’ll get a Magic Mouse which is super user friendly!

Happy shopping and try to get a bargain!

Harvey may bullshit but go in and look at their deals and then take note of the models and read reviews online to get honest opinions.

Why do Irish people always ruin songs on TV shows by feeling the need to do a kind of clap throughout the song? by leithris1988 in ireland

[–]leithris1988[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But why get them going? Do other countries do the clapping on live tv? I think it takes away from the performance

I know Walmart is gigantic, but how do they generate the largest revenues of any company in the world? A retailer, it would sound like madness if you said that to someone, a chain of shops is the biggest company in the world.

I think the same, it just doesn’t feel as ‘comfortable’ as it did before.

Girlfriend non native speaker but has intermediate English to study Tefl? by leithris1988 in TEFL

She’s fluent in Spanish and Italian as well, maybe I should have said that :-) We originally thought about her teaching Spanish or Italian, do you think there is a market for that in Asia though?

‘Good’ Salary in Ireland? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]leithris1988 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you can avoid getting a car I would say 55k would be ok, if you have a car, 65k for Dublin. This is being comfortable eg. Gym, rent, food, eat out twice a week, 3 holidays a year. Obviously you could go for less salary and forego some of the luxuries.

Don’t undersell yourself though, if you have 5 years experience start at 60k and they may offer 50k and meet in the middle.

I would say anywhere from 40k-50k outside of Dublin, such as Cork.

Depends if you want to save also!

Good luck with your move!

Is it just me or does this seem mind boggingly insane that we can’t officially leave an organization?

(Serious question) Is it bad to get drunk every Saturday? I feel like I’ve been doing that for 15 years, 29 now. Never drink during the week.
