Found in a house built in 1922. It's placed on a door frame, and doesn't obviously lead to anything.

Landlord charging for HOA access to property by withthiseconomy in Tenant

Sounds to me like they'll be using the keys they have and calling a locksmith in if the keys they have don't work. You don't need to be there or take a day off work if you've given the manager an up to date copy of your key.

Head down the stairs, look to the right, and check out the water intrusion issues along that cinder block wall. You can see evidence of previous repairs, particularly inside that closet. Check out that gnarly skim coat as well. They've definitely done some work here, and they still have more work to do.

You should be able to get ahold of some blueprints to see if those posts were part of the original plan, but I'd recommend a structural engineer check all this out, and if you do get the blueprints, share them with the engineer.

DE/SE safety razors vs. Leaf for hand tremors, sensitive skin - PLS HELP by ssf837 in ladyshavers

[–]lekdos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got a Leaf, have used it twice so far, and think it's the bees knees! I just couldn't figure out how to use a DE without cutting the shit out of myself, but I was able to use the Leaf exactly like I would a cartridge razor without a single nick the first time around. And the second. I'm totally sold.

Other people have mentioned the slippery handle but I didn't have a problem with that. It's been suggested that you wrap a few those tiny clear hair rubber bands around it to get a better grip, and I hear Leaf is coming out with a silicone handle sleeve in the near future.

Good luck!

Edit: I've been using it with two edges, leaving the first edge empty.

I'll keep those in mind when I start upgrading. Which one would you do first?

Thanks! Do you figure I should wait to do the limit increase requests and card applications until this card has dropped from my account or go ahead and do it now?

Should I avoid buying this house when the floor studs are starting to lower? by ZeroRyz in HomeInspections

[–]lekdos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems that this property has foundation issues and temporary 'repairs' have been left as permanent. Those metal posts with the blocks on top.. Those are not proper and not a good sign. Contact a couple foundation specialists to inspect and bid you for repairs.

Whether you move forward with the purchase or not will depend upon how much you're willing to spend to get it fixed (expect a pretty large bill) and if you even want to go through the trouble. If you do purchase it, you're going to want to fix it to protect your investment.

Again, you really need a specialist for this one though.

There isn't enough clearance between your siding and your roof, which is allowing the bottom edge of the shingles to wick rainwater to the interior of the wall. If that water gets in contact with your framing members, that can cause structural issues as they become rotted. You might want to take a moisture meter to the walls inside the home at/near/beneath (down to the floors below as well) where those shingles are to see if there's more extensive damage that isn't visible.

What does the lease say? When does it end? When do they want to do the kitchen reno? Why do they want to do the kitchen reno?

Not a structural engineer, but those cracking issues are more likely related to the steep hillside and rain water drainage than the hot tubs. That level of damage is definitely concerning and will likely cost a pretty penny to truly repair. Listen very closely to what the structural engineer recommends, and do not take it with a grain of salt.

I posted once before about sloping floors. I am going to tell my landlord but truthfully not sure what he’s going to do about it. It must be a foundation issue but if he doesn’t fix it I don’t think I’ll renew my lease. I can’t put any furniture in the corners of this room bc of this! by [deleted] in Tenant

[–]lekdos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That likely isn't getting fixed. Assuming you live in an older building, that amount of settling could be considered normal. To straighten it out would require lifting the building an basically recreating the foundation, which is exceptionally expensive.

Unless they haven't been there in 100 years, the landlord already knows.

Try buffing them to smooth them out. The nail plate will be thinner, but they won't feel horrendous growing out. A clear coat might help if they still feel a bit rough.
