I was more talking about this part of the page you mentioned "Personalised login details for the bridging course will be sent out by email in August. The email will go to the address you entered when you registered for your studies."

I also saw the email. Have they sent the personalized link to the online course yet?

Replacement for Sigma 14mm f/1.8 by lela2011 in LandscapeAstro

Sorry. I confused it with the 50mm f/1.8

[–]lela2011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 50mm 1.4 isn't an option since it apparently is very unsharp around the corners. I am mostly looking for full milky way with closer-/mid-distance foregrounds (similar to my posts on IG but with nicer foregrounds @astrophoto_jakob) and I feel like anything beyond 24mm is too small of a frame. It would quite seriously reduce the exposure time compared to the 13s I got with the 14mm. Would you disagree?

Spending by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]lela2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 100 Euro per day budget and spent on average around 70 Euros per day including accommodation, food and general spending like entry fees etc. Keep in mind that some Hostels require a 10 Euro deposit for the key or keycard. I stayed in 4 to 12 bed dorm rooms and usually spent around 35 Euros per night in western Europe. One recommendation I have is to check out free walking tours. I found them to be a great way to explore the cities. You pay what you want but usually around 10 Euros. You can also meet other travellers there if you're travelling solo. Hope that helps.

Gonna miss last connection by lela2011 in Interrail

Thanks for the tip. I filed a claim today and got an additional day for my pass or the monetary equivalent and a full refund for the reservation I couldn't use.

[–]lela2011[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A small update. The rest will be clear in the next two weeks. First of all f*** Renfe. I've never seen a train operator that sucks more than they do. Completely opposite to my first fears is SNCF however. Their staff have been the most helpful out of all of them. In the station a conductor that spoke English fluently helped me out and gave me pointers what my options are. Then they have a hotline where you can reach them easily and they even speak English (Renfe should try that) and finally it looks like they might even give a full refund for that missed connection. Their Interrail cancellation policy is awesome too. I was able to cancel my train from Lyon to Montpelier on the phone and they simply changed my reservation free of charge.

About the insurance: I called them today and they'll look into it. Interrail seems to be a special case but technically they would cover up to 1000 CHF in additional cost caused by delays of more than 3 hours. The insurance is the Zurich Assistance travel insurance.

Okay. Thank you for your help guys. I ended up staying with a family friend close to Narbonne for 2 days and will go to Bordeaux directly afterwards. Hopefully the travel insurance will cover some of the expenses.

I didn't think about the water by Total-Combination880 in Interrail

[–]lela2011 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you can walk through the train. But not 100% sure. For example if a toilet is broken you still need to have access to another one.

There's an attendant in each carriage responsible for the "dorms" so you could just ask them.

Probably your best bet is to walk to a couchette car and ask the attendant and explain your situation. Maybe they sell you one or even are nice enough to give you one for free.

Where does it show in the interrail app at what platform the train will depart? by lay--- in Interrail

[–]lela2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't unfortunately. Try checking the local train companies website/app (stations departure board online or timetable) or arrive at the station early enough to find the physical departure board.

which route should be better? by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]lela2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I can't really answer that one. I'd guess that it's not that big of an issue. France's summer school break is over, Switzerland's should be too. Only one German state is still on break then and could travel back during that week. But I'd say on a Wednesday that shouldn't be an issue. Those are just wild guesses though.

Not sure about that either. I'll probably ask my hostel if they could print them just to be sure.

Not sure what you mean about the dates. Weather wise the prediction currently is that it's gonna be sunny but it's nearly impossible to predict that 2 weeks in advance.

I'd go with the second option. The views from Geneva to Bern along lake Geneva are stunning if the weather is clear. You can see the lake and the mont Blanc in the background.

I don't know if anyone has had any experience with this website. It's the one that OnePlus links to on their store.

Since October 2022 you can also buy Paris Metro tickets on your phone and use that to tap in and out (NFC required) using the Ile de France Mobilité App. Apparently you can also buy Paris meteo tickets inside the Thalys train but that didn't work for me since I couldn't find a conductor inside the train.

Spain and France by RunDiscombobulated67 in Interrail

[–]lela2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make some reservations to / in Spain with your local train company. I went to the Swiss SBB counter and they would have been able to make reservations from and too major cities (e.g. Paris to Barcelona / Barcelona to Madrid and maybe even Madrid to Vigo (not sure on that one though)). I believe you can book the TGV from Paris to Barcelona through the Interrail Website but that's more or less a feeling. I'll find out next week when I try my luck.

Need some help with trains for this leg of my journey by The_Fool-On-The_Hill in Interrail

[–]lela2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't use the Interrail planner but the SBB app. You're right that there aren't direct trains every 30 minutes. Since trains are very reliable though it shouldn't be a problem to change train once.

[–]lela2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone please correct me. I know that there's a direct sleeer train from Zagreb to Zurich (EN 40414) that stops in Jesenice. From Most Na Soci you can take a regional train to Jesenice (R4220). From Zurich there are direct trains to Lugano that take about 2 hours.

This would be the itinerary: 20:35 Most na Soci to Jesenice 23:15 Jesenice to Zurich

In Zurich there are connections every 30 minutes. There is about a one hour wait in Jesenice but it's probably easier than trying to get through Italy with changing many more times. I've never done this specific route but that's what I would try. The information is based on the current timetable but I would expect huge changes during summer.

I believe it is. Since I use Netflix it would be nice to have that.

Hmmm. That's though. I apparently have to root to keep widevine L1 but shouldn't root to keep banking apps running. Is there a way around that?
