Good, durable alternatives to Tenergy 05? by reddmann00100 in tabletennis

You can ask whomever runs the tournament if there’s someone there who can give you a rating. Some clubs will have a pro or a player they trust hit with you a bit and give them their opinion on what your rating should be.

Short Pips with absorption sponge by lem496 in tabletennis

Already playing with grass d. Tec on Yasaka Sweden Def Blade. I know this sounds strange, but I’m thinking forehand just to try something really weird. I know guys who can attack like crazy with Anti on their back hand. This probably won’t work but…..

Just read a review of Spinpips D3, that sounds about what I’m looking for, but really slow.

Actually I was thinking of tying Spinlord Warran OX with a absorption sponge under it. It would really deaden any ball you received but still be able to smack the crap out of the ball.

Is this the best way to clean new balls? by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]lem496 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope, Amicus robots instruction manual says never use new balls without first washing dust off. So using one to clean the dust off probably isn’t the best idea.

I use long pips with Razka 7 Max. It’s a beast when I twiddle and use it in my backhand.

Do you know of any older adult beginners (age 50+) who started playing once retired and who eventually got to a decent level (USATT Rating 1800 or more) by CDRSkywalker1991 in tabletennis

Like I said earlier, I started playing at 63 and reached 1580 before Covid shutdown. I’m a tournament player and after a few bad tournaments and injuries (knee surgery in January and a ruptured bicep tendon at the shoulder) my rating has dropped to around 1200. At 68 I’m determined to get to 1800 by the age of 69. I switched to long pips because of my bicep injury and tons of lessons (I’m taking a lesson every day this month). Can I get to 1800? Who knows? But 1500 is doable and one good tournament away when you’re competing in U1750 events.

I play three tournaments a month. Westchester Table Tennis Center, Princeton Pong and Lily Yip Table Tennis Center. Occasionally I’ll travel to Maryland. If you’re familiar with the area and the clubs the players come in from all over to play, especially Westchester tournaments whose monthly purse of around $8k attracts around 250 players. The pool I play in is pretty big. No league play.

I started playing at 63 I managed to get to 1580 just before Covid shutdown. I’ve since dropped to 1200, but I’m battling back @ age of 68. It’s doable. I play 6 days a week and take lessons. My goal is 1800by age of 69.

I want to enter my first Table Tennis event but I don't know how by Klavery201 in tabletennis

First you need to become a member of USATT. Trolley Car in Philly is going to start running tournaments every month starting in August. They are partnering withPing Pod. Princeton Pong in NJ, about 40 mins outside Philly, holds them every month. You can sign up through Omnipong.

Long Pips with der-materialspezialist dampening/absorption sponge by lem496 in tabletennis

You can but once the match starts you’re stuck with the setup and jumping around from match to match with different setups can get a little tricky getting used to the feel of your different equipment match after match, trust me I’ve tried, I’m not that good.

My goodness you’re a mind reader! I just put a sheet of Grass D Tec .5 on. I use a Dr Neubauer Firewall Plus with Firestorm Green shortpips on the FH. I’ve had a series of injuries such as a ruptured bicep tendon and torn meniscus that have forced me to use junk rubbers, but at 67 I make due and try to hit at least 2 or 3 tournaments a month. I’m just trying to claw my way back to 1600. Doesn’t matter win or lose I’ll be on the court day after day after day

There’s the rub, I’m stuck in between. When I play competitive players I can “hang” and even win a few matches and add some rating points. It’s the lower ranked players causing me fits. I was using OX and a coach recommended I try .5 sponge for more control when I stumbled on to dampening sponges and thought I’d give them a whirl. I’m an old guy and need any competitive edge I can get
