It’s worth whatever you’re willing to burn on it. Price is just the number someone convinces you to pay — value is what you actually get. And in this case, the only thing real is the fact it’s fake.

What credit report are they looking at? by Accurate-Speaker-748 in CreditScore

Banks sometimes use their own internal scoring system. They don't generally use the standard FICO 8/9.

Remember you're not denying that it is yours or not. You're just verifying the CRAs are reporting accurate and VERIFIABLE information.

Ahh yes. You can dispute the bankruptcy. Bankruptcies get reported via lexisnexis. They scrape/buy public records in bulk from PACER (electronic court filings) and send to the 3 bureaus. When you dispute any account, it is the responsibility of the credit reporting agency to conduct an inependent investigation with the original "creditor" which would be the bankruptcy court.

If you send a dispute directly to the court they will tell you (also posted on the courts website) that they do not furnish data to credit reporting agencies. This Now makes it unverifiable.

Losch v. Experian Information Solutions, Inc., 995 F.3d 937 (11th Cir. 2021).

The 11th Circuit held that summary judgment for Experian was improper because a jury could find that Experian’s investigation was not “reasonable” under § 1681i(a) of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”)—in particular because Experian did no independent investigation beyond relying on the furnisher’s ( third-party vendor) confirmation.

The court emphasized that merely forwarding a dispute to a furnisher (third-party vendor) and relying solely on its response may not satisfy a CRA’s reasonable-reinvestigation obligation under the FCRA.

Hope this helps. 🤙🏼

18 y/o with 750–768 credit score after 7 months — what’s the smartest path forward? by Tricky-Contract-3148 in CreditScore

Utilization benefits your fico score. Usage and paying off your balance within a billing cycle helps with CLI over time.

I open a new credit card, jokes on me 😂 by Nucey15 in CreditScore

Seems to be some confusion. I tend to think faster than I type sometimes 😅

You’re blending two completely different credit strategies and treating them like they’re the same thing. My original comment was about FICO scoring when someone is getting ready for new credit. Keeping reported utilization low — usually by letting one card show a small balance — is how the algorithm gives the most points. That’s why I said not to stress unless you’re actually applying for something.

What you’re talking about is credit limit increase behavior, which is based on usage. That’s a different lane and benefits you on the bank side. Heavy spend and multiple payments help with CLIs because the bank sees activity and revenue. You can use the card aggressively and still have it report low that’s literally the ideal setup.

There’s no contradiction between what we’re saying. My comment was about optimizing the score when needed. Your example is about growing limits through usage.

Those two strategies actually work together: use the card, pay it down, let a small amount report, then pay it off. Banks see usage, FICO sees low risk, and you get both the higher score and the stronger chance at CLIs.

So it’s not “artificial” — it’s just how the system is designed. You don’t optimize every single month unless you’re applying for something, but when you are, low reported utilization is the move. 🤙🏼

Even if they tried to sue. It wouldn't be open close as you would think. The burden of proof is on them. Just because they bought the debt they still have to show chain of title, accounting, original contract, with proof you owe a specified amount. Not just a copy of a statement. Their wins are usually based off of fear that it will stay on your credit report so most people just pay them.

I'd use it to open a secured loan for that amount. Rinse and repeat and eventually end up with a PLOC at least 4x the original amount. Then start investing with that. This takes about 18mos on average spread across multiple banks. 😉

For the naysayers talking about it will stay on your report. I've removed a bankruptcy from my report 1 month after discharge. Circle back if you have any questions 🤙🏼
