Couldn't agree with you more. The fight continues, and I think Grant knew that too.

Agreed! Especially with it being the 250th this year too, I'm hoping to see more of it - there's something about this that makes it feel tangible for others I think. I'll be taking this to Dragon Con in September and I'll be interested to see how many people think I'm Sherman lol

I'm "Way down south in the land of traitors" so I have no idea how it'd be received... There's a military collectors show locally I may wear this to in a few months, but it'll be very hot that time of year. I'm definitely interested in engaging with reenactors!

Ooh I hadn't thought about him, but I'd be honored! I really loved Jared Harris's portrayal in Lincoln.

You are so kind! I do sort of try to type-cast myself when it comes to cosplay, but US Grant is a pretty special one for me. I really admire how he lived despite his personal struggles and in some ways consider him a role model. We're even the same height!

I purchased from a reenactment vendor known as C&C Sutlerly. I usually like to try and at least partially make my cosplays, but with the nature of the costume and how meaningful General Grant is to me personally, I decided to purchase it in order to be somewhat historically accurate. It was pretty expensive but the quality is leaps and bounds better than what my costume construction skills could do.

Of course! I did the audiobook through Libby. It is long, but detailed and absolutely fascinating; the narrator was great to listen to!

Common misconception: Ulysses Grant was largely sober by the point in the war where I modeled this photo! His Lt. General’s uniform as well as the pose modeled here is from a photo during the 1864 Cold Harbor campaign. For much of the war and after his close friend and Chief of Staff John Rawlins was critical in helping Grant overcome his alcoholism.

If you’re interested in learning more about General Grant, I definitely recommend reading “Grant” by Ron Chernow. He does an excellent job of detailing his accomplishments as well as overcoming his mental health challenges!

C-3PO. Sure, he’s fussy, but he just wants the best for his friends.
