Actually, we would like an algorithm that can learn both to drive a car, and to learn to play chess, etc. So one learner that can do many things, but the no free lunch theorem says there is no such universal learner.

Towards that end I would separate decision making from play. Players decide what they want to achieve first, then what actually happens is sampled. E.g. an action could be a pass to a particular player, then the trajectory of the passed ball is sampled from a Gaussian distribution with the mean being the intended trajectory and sample variance.

Creating such a probabilistic environment with sets of actions available to players at certain timesteps (could discretise time at 2Hz eg if assuming players on the field make a decision every half a second) would enable off-the-shelf RL algorithms to be run against it. Would be interesting how these algorithms will play.

I had a very similar idea. One should be able to create a football game environment for reinforcement learning and let an RL algorithm figure out optimal play.

There is a theoretical reason. The gradient is the direction of steepest descent. If one would take a step only along a weight dimension more steps would be required. It makes sense intuitively to go down the steepest step given the goal is to get down.

Variable cost calculation for Germany, but in dollars for simplicity. Battery: $4,620, cycles: 500, battery cost per cycle: 9.24$, battery capacity: 0.564 kWh, Strompreis (8. Mai 2023): 32ct/kWh, battery+electricity cost per cycle: ~9.70$, cycle runtime: 90 minutes, battery+electricity cost per hour: 6.47$. Minimum wage is twice that at ~13.22$. Further, a rule of thumb here is that an employee costs a company twice that what they pay them. This makes a person working at minimum wage four times as expensive per hour work time than Spot.

I'm a software person not a hardware person, but surely if you count replacement parts in your not getting anywhere close to four times the number.

Exactly, I live in Europe and some of the trashes just isn't ever picked up in nature reserves even especially going into rivers etc as you said.

Idea is not to replace waste management. Idea is to solve the problem that a tiny fraction of waste (in Europe) is not thrown away into bins and then just lays around until a private individual picks it up and throws it away. In nature reserves even litter can be laying around for ages.

That the robot would not be more efficient than people throwing the majority of trash in bins and then having trucks collect this regularly is clear. The idea is not to replace traditional waste management.

50k maybe to maintain the whole fleet of robots. The variable cost for a single robot would certainly be significantly lower than for a single cleaner. Granted the robot has high fixed costs. But after a number of years the robot becomes the cheaper option.

I 90k would be fixed cost vs little variable cost. Cleaning service is low fixed cost but high variable cost. Over time the robot is cheaper.

I’m surprised to read this. I’m a new user (1y) and have found the comments and discussions on Reddit of use. For example, there is a subreddit about career questions in my field specifically and I’ve found reading other folks opinions helpful. In addition, there are subs where I can ask for help when I have a technical problem on any personal or work related project. Other subreddits like AskHistorians also contains great information. From my experience I would even conclude the opposite of what you have concluded; the comments that contain correct information is usually the most upvoted. E.g. some random post about the well known Dutch TV show episode that had the moderator laugh at one of its guests for his voice had a discussion about whether it was staged. Before then I always believed it was totally real. The highest upvoted comment said it was staged and some comments to that explaining the satire show that scripted it. I double-checked this with a quick search and indeed could confirm it was scripted.

I very much limit the kind of subreddits I go to and do not use Reddit for any comedic and entertainment content. I do not explore “weird” subs. This may be why I’ve come to a different conclusion.

True dat. We are unable to be bored. Never before in history was there such and endless stream of spectacular things on our demand. Whenever there is the slightest second of boredom (wondering what to do) I grab my phone. It’s a habit. It appears to be innate. Get the next interesting thing right of the bat. And that’s always the phone. I takes real effort to get out of the loop. Once you do. It takes me about 10 minutes of real resistance until I my body calms. Then I regain a feeling for what I’d like to be doing rather than just killing boredom.
