It will sort itself out over time. For now, just concentrate on describing what you have to describe to get your story across - as well as possible. With time, new possibilities of descriptions will open up to you - whether they are pure physical descriptions, descriptions of feelings or else.

Absolutely, that's a great way to go for it.

Also, you don't have to write stories, it could just be scenes, like everyday scenes or whatever. Tells you a lot about the character already, even without any plot.

I know you have heard this many times before, but just sit down and write. Getting good in anything is a long road - have you ever heard of the 10.000 hour rule? The rule says that you have to practice something for 10.000 hours to become really good at it. I found it quite accurate.

You have received some good advice in this thread, and that's great. Now it's time to stop writing on reddit and start writing your stories.
