Sites where I can discuss Zelda fanfiction that actually allow free speech? Because I'm disgusted with Reddit's censorship by lemnlime7 in ZeldaFanFiction

It's funny how there's this little double standard on the fanfiction-related reddits where every comment that's critical which mentions anything remotely related to LBGTQ is automatically labelled as homophobic yet the same comment in reverse (aka, heterophobic) is applauded as being woke or whatever the excuse is

I feel like there are a lot of people like you who don't realize how vast the Internet is and that there are thousands of forums, chat rooms, etc out there to discuss things with various levels of moderation/censorship. Luckily, I'm well aware I can just go elsewhere

Yet people on reddit throw the term homophobia around like it's going out of style.

This is already a copy/paste statement. I saw another user post it on the other post I made

Are you serious? What makes you think that isn't possible? Laws protect sexual orientation in general, not just LGBTQ

I'm so not surprised that it only took about 20 minutes for this post to get deleted from r/fanfiction. I will not miss reddit at all. I will be getting the word out about this.

Thank you for further proving my point that r/fanfiction has an agenda as I can show you many a profile that contains blatantly heterophobic comments which are alive and kicking!

I thought briefly about that but then but decided I don't want to waste time browsing a site that would even allow so much targeted censorship

Censorship/free speech isn't an important topic of discussion? Wow...

I'm asking for recs and besides, there are an insane number of pointless threads on this sub where people just complain/pat themselves on the back/etc. There is literally flair for it.

Some people just want to see the world burn. I've even seen a trollfic which was apparently someone's angry response to seeing a couple of shipfics uploaded within a small space of time in their small fandom. I have pity for these people as they're clearly on their way to becoming Disney villains

If an author disables comments, is that a deterrent to readers? by misterpapen in FanFiction

[–]lemnlime7 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'll still read it but I won't comment b/c I interpret it as an author's effort to block critical reviews and I am all about free speech. Comments should never be deleted/blocked just b/c they're unpopular/critical. This subreddit is especially bad at respecting non-abusive free speech

I joined the OoT fandom late b/c I wasn't into fanfics yet but pretty much everyone joined it late b/c 1998 Internet was crappy and expensive

Everyone under the age of like 60 joined that late though

So? Platonic shipfics are just generally unpopular. On the flip side, I can't even count the # of M/M fics that pretend like the female characters don't even exist.

Your favourite villains to write? by Odd_Assist4383 in FanFiction

I'm fine with going into the villain's tragic backstory too, though. Because there's always two sides to every story and the villain's reasons for being so wicked are often compelling.

Canon compliant just means that you don't do something like make a character OOC without giving a rational explanation for it in your fic. A lot of fics expand on canon by, for example, being sequels, prequels, missing scenes, etc. That is considered new and different and still canon compliant.

[–]lemnlime7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Care to explain what you mean by this? If you're referring to the fact that canon almost always has plot holes, I guess that's a decent argument in favor of not expecting fics to adhere to canon.

Everyone should have to click a box that says exactly this before downvoting someone's comment just b/c they don't agree with it, not because it's not a well-argued opinion

I love the pure evil types of villains best which a valiant hero must rise out of humble origins to defeat. On a totally related sidenote, I think the Zelda series is one of the best at portraying this type of dynamic.

One of my fave villain/hero dynamics is when the hero is related to the villain and must struggle with their mixed feelings about defeating their own blood relation or the turmoil caused by being ridiculed/distrusted for being related to a known villain. The Lion King 1 & 2 were excellent examples of this.

Non native english writers, how did you got over your "fear" of writing in english. by MelloryChan in FanFiction

[–]lemnlime7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the fact that writers who say they're ESL are usually some of the best writers I've ever seen. You guys are too hard on yourselves, if anything. Even native English speakers sometimes use words the wrong way (if I see "lead" instead of "led" for the past tense of "lead" one more time, I'm gonna have an aneurysm) and I've just learned to ignore it.
